A strange new rumor suggests that Apple is currently questioning the future of MagSafe on its smartphones. According to the Weibo account Instant Digital, the company is debating whether to keep the magnetic charging system as a standard feature. This account has a solid history of sharing highly accurate leaks, making the claim hard to ignore despite how unlikely the move sounds to everyday users.

The idea of dropping MagSafe confuses many industry watchers. The iPhone 12 introduced the feature, and a massive accessory market quickly grew around it. The system is so popular that when the 16e launched without it, loud user complaints forced the company to add it back for the 17e model.
