Apple is getting ready to reveal its next major software update at the Worldwide Developers Conference on June 8. A known leaker on the Chinese social media platform Weibo, named Instant Digital, claims the company will drop support for four older smartphone models this year. It appears that Apple is tightening its hardware requirements for the iOS 27 update.
Four older smartphone models will lose support for the update
If you still use the iPhone 11 series or the older entry-level model, your device will stay on iOS 26. According to leaked details from Instant Digital, the tech giant will require an iPhone 12 or a third-generation iPhone SE to install its new operating system. Here are the models missing out:
- iPhone 11
- iPhone 11 Pro
- iPhone 11 Pro Max
- iPhone SE (2nd generation)
While these four phones will not get new visual tools, Apple will likely send critical security patches to them for a few more years. This mirrors what it did last year when it left the iPhone XS behind. It makes sense because newer features need more processing power.
The new update brings bug fixes and fresh interface tools
Rumors suggest iOS 27 will focus heavily on general stability and fixing bugs. The company wants its operating system to run smoothly. Still, you can expect fresh design changes as well. The software will introduce a dedicated Siri app and better autocorrection to help you type faster.
You will also find ways to make customizing your home screen much easier. Users will see a new system slider to adjust the opacity of a design style called Liquid Glass. The biggest artificial intelligence features will only work on the iPhone 15 Pro or newer. Apple will officially announce its plans this summer.
