Apple’s hit racing drama is getting another lap. The producer of F1: The Movie has confirmed that a sequel is officially in development, turning earlier hints into a clear commitment. After the film became Apple’s biggest theatrical success and the highest-grossing sports movie ever, a follow-up was expected. Now it is happening.
The confirmation carries weight because F1: The Movie marked a turning point for Apple’s film strategy. The company backed the project with a wide theatrical release, and audiences showed up. That success gave Apple its strongest big-screen result to date and strengthened its position in major sports storytelling.
According to the BBC, producer Jerry Bruckheimer confirmed the news during the annual Academy Awards luncheon in Los Angeles. Christal Hayes reported that Bruckheimer said, “We’re working on a sequel.” He did not share a timeline or confirm casting details, including whether Brad Pitt will return. However, he added that he would “of course” be involved in casting decisions.
Sequel Makes Sense
The sequel aligns with Apple’s growing investment in Formula 1. Starting next month, Formula 1 races will stream on Apple TV in the United States. That move deepens Apple’s ties to the sport and keeps the brand connected to racing fans year-round. A new film builds on that momentum and keeps the franchise relevant.
At the same time, Apple appears cautious about its theatrical strategy. Last week, the company unveiled several new movies set for release this year, but none are planned for theaters. Instead, each title will debut directly on Apple TV. That decision suggests Apple wants to be selective about which projects receive a full theatrical push.
The success of F1: The Movie proved that Apple can compete at the global box office when it chooses the right title. Now, with a sequel in development, the company has another opportunity to extend that winning streak while reinforcing its growing presence in the world of Formula 1.
