The upcoming Apple smart home device is getting a familiar look. According to a recent leak, the heavily rumored home hub will feature display screens that closely resemble the StandBy mode found on the upcoming iPhone Duo. Leaked images reveal that the new living room gadget will focus on showing off personal pictures and large clock faces when you are not actively using it.

Leaked setup screens show familiar photo slideshows and clock interfaces

A leaker named pdfu recently shared pictures of the setup process for the unreleased smart display. The images highlight a new Photo Face option that looks very much like the screens seen on the foldable phone. Users will have the choice to show specific picture collections, curated memories, or shared albums right on the device.

The interface heavily relies on these picture carousels and large digital clocks to fill the screen space. If you want to use the picture features, the device will likely pull your images directly from iCloud. This makes it easy to turn the gadget into a digital picture frame. The software itself seems to borrow many ideas from the standard iOS operating system, adjusting them for a stationary screen in the living room.

The new smart home gadget could launch this coming October

The technology company is reportedly planning to reveal this new home hub on October 13. Reports suggest the device will act as a central command point for your house. It offers a dedicated screen that might remind some people of a smaller iPad, but it is built specifically to control lights, cameras, and thermostats.

A key feature of this new product is its ability to recognize different people in the same house. The hub will connect with individual phones to load personal preferences and information for whoever is standing in front of it. While you might not be able to browse the App Store like on a standard tablet, the customized software will offer enough tools to manage your daily routine and keep your household running smoothly.
