Apple’s release page groups software by date, not by product, which is how the gap becomes visible. Every other point release from that stretch, iOS 26.6.2 among them, has a same-numbered sibling somewhere on the list. iPadOS 26.7 does not, and Apple has not published notes explaining why. Nothing on Apple’s developer releases page is dated September 10, 11 or 12. The pipeline of new builds stopped after the 9th, which means iPadOS 26.7 is also the last iPad-specific entry on the list heading into the iOS 27 release date this coming Monday.
Why an iPad-only release is unusual
iOS and iPadOS share a build number almost every time Apple ships a point release, because both trace back to the same 26-series branch and generally carry the same fix. A 26.7 bump on iPadOS with no iOS 26.7 anywhere on the page implies iPad picked up something iPhone did not need at that moment. Apple has not published release notes describing what changed in 26.7 versus 26.6.2, so there is no way to confirm from the public record what the fix actually addressed.
This is not the only oddity in that day’s list. Anyone who installs iPadOS 26.7 this weekend will be back at Settings within days for the bigger update.
That timing also means iPadOS 26.7 will likely be one of the shortest-lived point releases Apple has shipped for iPad, on the market for less time than most users will take to notice it arrived, based on Apple’s own published dates rather than any usage estimate.
