The $1,199 on the iPhone 18 Pro price tag is the one number in a cost of ownership sum that stops moving the moment you pay it. Almost every other figure a buyer uses this morning is one Apple can change later, and on September 9 it changed several of them in a single day without announcing any of it.
Four older iPhones went up by $100 each, every iPhone trade-in value came down, two Pro models stopped being sold and a third was removed from the lineup. Anyone who built a three-year plan on the figures from September 8 is working from numbers that no longer exist.
What changed on September 9 without an announcement
Apple’s Store page carries the current prices. The earlier figures are what Apple listed before the event, and Apple did not present the increase as news.

The direction is the part worth keeping. The standard advice on launch day has always been to buy last year’s phone, and in 2026 last year’s phone got more expensive while the new one arrived.
Trade-in credit is a number with a date on it
Apple publishes one trade-in figure in its own words, the $175 to $885 range for an iPhone 13 or later, and no per-model table. The values recorded for individual models all fell on September 9, some by as much as $120, and Apple’s Trade In page describes any figure as an estimate until it has inspected the device.
So the credit in front of you is a quote for today. A buyer who waited for launch week to trade in an iPhone 16 Pro was not rewarded for the wait, and Apple has published nothing that says which way the next revision goes.
A subscription is not a one-time cost
AppleCare One runs at $19.99 a month for up to three products, with $5.99 for each device beyond that. AppleCare One Family is $49.99 a month from September 14. On our arithmetic on published figures that is $239.88 and $599.88 a year, and it keeps billing for as long as the coverage runs.

The offers with expiry dates already printed
- Best Buy’s Apple Watch trade-in promotion, worth up to $325 on a Series 12 pre-order, expires on 9/18/2026.
- Apple’s Back to School gift card offer for Macs and iPads expires on September 24, 2026, after being extended once from August 27.
- Apple India tells customers directly that its cashback and instalment offers “may be revised or withdrawn at any time without prior notice.”
- Carrier credits, where a carrier has published any, arrive over 24 to 36 months and are only fully earned by staying on that carrier and plan.
What has not been confirmed
- Apple has published no schedule for future price or trade-in revisions, and gave no notice of the September 9 changes.
- Per-device AppleCare+ prices for every product launched in September 2026 are still unpublished, so the coverage line in any ownership sum is a blank rather than a number that might move.
- Apple has published no repair price for the iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone Duo or the new watches.
- Verizon has published no iPhone 18 Pro offer, and AT&T’s own site carries none either, so the credits in Apple’s footnotes are the only published figures.
Pre-orders for the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max open today, Saturday, September 12 at 5 a.m. Pacific, with launch on Friday, September 18 and iPhone Duo pre-orders on October 16. The figures worth writing down before you order are the ones Apple has committed to in print, not the ones that carry a date.
