Appleās trade-in process reads almost word for word the same across the storefronts checked in the United Kingdom, Germany, France and Japan this week, down to the 14-day return window and the three to five business days credit takes to process. The exception is India, where Appleās own page restricts Mac, iPad and Apple Watch trade-in to physical stores and ties iPhone trade-in credit directly to delivery or store pickup of the new phone.
This is about the mechanics of trading in an old device toward the iPhone 18 Pro pricing detailed in Appleās iPhone 18 Pro pricing, not the dollar or rupee value of any specific model, which Apple still does not publish per device on any of these five pages.
The same three numbers, four countries
| Country | Estimate valid for | Credit processing | Overall process |
|---|---|---|---|
| United Kingdom | 14 days after new device arrives | 3 to 5 business days | 2 to 3 weeks |
| Germany | 14 days after new device arrives | 3 to 5 days | 2 to 3 weeks |
| France | 14 days after new device arrives | 3 to 5 business days | Not separately stated |
| Japan | 14 days after new device arrives | 3 to 5 business days | 2 to 3 weeks |
| India | Tied to delivery or pickup of the new iPhone | Not separately stated | Not separately stated |
A prepaid kit or a drop-off, in every language
The United Kingdomās page states: āWeāll either send you a prepaid trade-in kit or email you with drop-off instructions.ā Germanyās page says the same thing in German, Franceās page offers a ākit de reprise prĆ©payĆ©ā or emailed instructions, and Japanās page describes the identical choice between a courier pickup and a drop-off.

In-store trade-in works everywhere, except one category in India
Indiaās page carries a restriction none of the other four names: āMac, iPad and Apple Watch trade-in is available only in-store in India. Apple Retail Online in India does not offer trade-in for Mac, iPad and Apple Watch.ā iPhones can still be traded in online or in-store in India, but those other categories cannot go through the online flow at all.
India folds trade-in into delivery itself
Indiaās page also ties the transaction to the new phoneās arrival: āWeāll give you instant credit for your exchange, lowering your order total. Weāll verify and complete your trade-in at the same time we deliver your new iPhone or when you pick it up at an Apple Store.ā That is worded differently from the UK, Germany, France and Japan pages, which describe shipping the old device separately through a kit or a drop-off, on its own 14-day clock.
Every page reserves the same right to say no
All five pages, India included, carry a near-identical clause: āApple or its trade-in partners reserve the right to refuse, cancel or limit the quantity of any trade-in transaction for any reason.ā Each also offers the same choice if a deviceās condition does not match its description: accept a lower revised value and take the difference, or reject it and get the device back.
| Country | In-store trade-in available | Restriction beyond iPhone |
|---|---|---|
| United Kingdom | Yes | None stated |
| Germany | Yes | None stated |
| France | Yes | None stated |
| Japan | Yes | None stated |
| India | Yes for iPhone | Mac, iPad and Apple Watch cannot be traded in online |
The process applies to any eligible iPhone traded toward the models covered in Appleās iPhone 18 Pro announcement, including the comparison against last yearās model in iPhone 18 Pro versus iPhone 17 Pro, and it sits well ahead of the wider recap in Appleās event recap.
What Apple has not said
Apple has not published a reason for Indiaās in-store-only rule on Mac, iPad and Apple Watch, has not said whether it will change, and still does not publish a per-model trade-in value on any of these five pages, only the process that applies once a value has been estimated.
Buyers weighing a trade-in against iPhone 18 Proās September 18 launch should expect roughly the same two-to-three-week process everywhere checked here except Indiaās in-store rule. This masthead fetched all five pages live on September 13 and will check again once the phones actually ship.
