The checkout process is getting much faster for small businesses and their customers. Apple is introducing a new tool called Tap to Share in its upcoming iOS 27 update. Instead of spelling out your email address or filling out long forms at the register, you can now transfer all your details with a single tap of your phone. It builds on the existing Tap to Pay system to make buying things much simpler.
Customers share details using NFC technology instead of typing
During a purchase, merchants using an iPhone as a checkout terminal can ask for specific details. When the prompt appears, the customer simply taps their device against the merchant’s phone. This secure connection transfers the requested data instantly without any extra typing.
You can use this tool to hand over your shipping address, provide an email for a digital receipt, or sign up for a store loyalty program. It also lets you review your shopping cart and complete the final payment using Apple Pay right from your own screen. The system only shares the exact details you choose to approve.
The feature requires newer phones and skips the European market
To use this new sharing tool, you will need an iPhone 12 or a newer model. It is built around the hardware capabilities of modern devices and relies entirely on having the latest software installed.
While the tool is rolling out widely, it will not launch in the European Economic Area right away. The company has not given a specific reason for skipping these countries or shared a timeline for when that might change. For everyone else, this tool should cut down the time you normally spend when buying items from local vendors and independent sellers.
