During the interview, Brockman frankly admitted that the current iteration of the ChatGPT desktop application is “kind of a mess.” The candid remark comes as OpenAI continues to tweak the software following the launch of the new GPT-5.6 models and the introduction of advanced voice features. The rapid rollout of these new tools seems to have cluttered the desktop experience for some users.

To fix these issues, Brockman teased an upcoming tab-free design for the app. The goal is to strip away the complex navigation and create a cleaner, more streamlined interface. This change is intended to make it easier for users to switch between regular chats, the new ChatGPT Work agent, and Codex features without getting lost in multiple windows and tabs.
While a specific release date for this redesign was not provided, the company is actively working to refine the user experience based on the recent feedback.
