Trump wants to rename AI and create an ‘AI Force’

President Donald Trump says artificial intelligence needs a new name. He has also announced plans for an “AI Force” modeled on the Space Force, adding a new branding proposal to his administration’s push for faster AI development.

In a Truth Social poll posted Saturday, Trump called “artificial intelligence” inaccurate and inelegant. He offered three alternatives: Superior Intelligence, Extreme Intelligence, and Supreme Intelligence. The post did not describe a legal process for changing the term used by government or industry.

Trump later said the United States would form an AI Force and choose an AI leader or “czar.” He compared the idea with the Space Force created during his first term, but did not publish details about the organization’s authority, budget, staffing, or relationship with existing technology agencies.

A slogan is not yet a policy

AI is a broad technical term used globally in research, law, product marketing, and standards. A presidential preference would not automatically rename the field. A formal change inside the federal government would require agencies to define where the new label applies and how it affects existing programs.

The AI Force proposal could carry more practical weight if the White House follows it with an executive order or legislation. Until then, it is an announced goal rather than an operating agency.

Apple already has a role in a separate federal initiative. Our report on the U.S. Tech Force AI program explains that partnership. The distinction matters because the newly announced AI Force may be a different project despite the similar name.

Trump’s poll shows how the administration wants to frame AI as a source of national strength. It does not settle which alternative name will win, whether the government will adopt it, or what the proposed force will actually do.

The proposed names also create acronym conflicts. Both Superior Intelligence and Supreme Intelligence shorten to SI, while “extreme intelligence” has no established technical definition. The poll is political messaging, not a standards process.
