The team at WhatsApp is starting to roll out a new feature that lets channel administrators clearly mark media created with artificial intelligence. The popular messaging platform is bringing this tool to Apple users who are currently testing the latest beta version of the app. This move follows a similar rollout for Android devices, aiming to give people better transparency about the images and videos they view every day.
Channel administrators can now tag generated media for all followers
The new tool allows channel owners to tag any photo or video that was created or edited using artificial intelligence tools. Whether the media was made using ChatGPT, Gemini, or Meta AI, the rule remains the same. Once an administrator adds this tag to a post, it becomes visible to every follower in the channel. The platform designed this tag to be permanent, meaning nobody can remove it after it goes live.
For people running channels in certain countries, this feature might soon become a legal requirement. When the tool becomes active for an account, the app shows a banner at the top of the screen to inform administrators about their local rules regarding artificial intelligence disclosure.

This change aims to help regular users tell the difference between real photos and generated images. Since modern generative tools can create highly realistic pictures, the tag removes any confusion. Right now, this feature is only available to a small group of beta testers using iOS devices, but a wider release is expected in the future.
Giving channel owners a simple way to mark generated media builds a healthier environment for sharing news and updates. As artificial intelligence becomes a normal part of how we make images, clear tags will help everyone know what is real and what is not.
