Apple is treating Apple Card as a service, not just a physical product. The company will continue to add merchants to its 3% Daily Cash back program as a way to entice customers to use it. We will continually update this list as new merchants are added.
3% Apple Pay Merchants
In order to actually get 3% cash back, you still need to use Apple Pay with your Apple Card as the main payment option. Putting your Apple Card number into one of these services will only get you the 1% physical card cash back. This list will be continually updated as more merchants are added to the program.

I am getting a lot of 2%, but no 3% except for Apple. Anyway, since this pandemic started I am using ApplePay a lot more than I had been before; many places discourage the use of cash, not that I get much except for groceries and Home Depot, a few other places. I treated myself to a pair of Johnston & Murphy chelsea boots that I ordered on line with my Apple Cash.
I am nit understanding what you mean by that. Can you elaborate on it?
So if you pay for a service using Apple Pay, *and* your Apple Card is set as the default, it will give you 3%. If you pay for something using your card in the “regular” way and not through Apple Pay, like on Amazon, you’ll get 1%.
Just at Apple and the select 3% merchants? There are store checkouts that choked when I tried to use my Apple Card with Apple Pay, I had to use my bank’s debit card, with Apple Pay.
Yeah, if you use it via Apple Pay at another merchant you’ll get 2% cash back.
