How to Fix iOS 26.4 Age Verification Not Working on iPhone

Apple’s iOS 26.4 introduces a new age verification system that asks users to confirm they are 18 or older before accessing certain apps and features. The system relies on signals like your Apple ID history, payment methods, or manual verification using ID or a credit card.

Now users are reporting that the process fails even when they provide valid details. In many cases, the scan does not go through, verification loops keep appearing, or restrictions stay active after completing the process.

Here are all the working methods you can try to fix iOS 26.4 age verification issues.

Method 1: Retry the Verification Properly

Sometimes the issue comes down to how the scan is processed.

1. Wait longer during scan

Give the system extra time to read your ID or card.

  1. Open Settings
  2. Tap your Apple ID banner
  3. Go to Age Verification prompt
  4. Scan your ID or card
  5. Hold steady for at least 10 seconds before moving

Many users report that quick movements cause failures.

2. Improve lighting and positioning

Poor lighting leads to scan errors.

  1. Place your card or ID on a flat surface
  2. Use bright, even lighting
  3. Avoid shadows or glare
  4. Keep the camera steady until it confirms

Method 2: Add a Credit Card to Your Apple ID

Apple uses payment data to verify age automatically.

1. Add a valid credit card

Debit cards may not work in most cases.

  1. Open Settings
  2. Tap your name
  3. Select Payment & Shipping
  4. Tap Add Payment Method
  5. Enter credit card details
  6. Save changes

Once added, retry the verification.

2. Check if the payment method is active

Inactive cards can fail silently.

  1. Go to Payment & Shipping
  2. Confirm the card is listed and valid
  3. Remove and re-add if needed

This method works because Apple assumes only adults can hold credit cards.

Method 3: Restart Your iPhone

A simple restart often clears temporary glitches. This refreshes system processes.

  1. Press and hold Power + Volume button
  2. Slide to power off
  3. Wait 10–15 seconds
  4. Turn the iPhone back on
  5. Retry verification

Users report this resolves repeated failures.

Method 4: Check Apple ID Age Signals

Apple may already have enough data to verify your age automatically. Account age and purchase history matter.

  1. Open Settings
  2. Tap your name
  3. Check account details
  4. Ensure the correct date of birth is set

Older Apple IDs are more likely to pass verification automatically.

Method 5: Update or Reinstall the Software

Some cases are linked to bugs in early builds.

1. Check for a newer update

Apple may fix issues quickly.

  1. Go to Settings
  2. Tap General
  3. Select Software Update
  4. Install any available update

2. Avoid beta builds

Beta versions often trigger false prompts.

  1. Go to Settings
  2. Tap General
  3. Tap Software Update
  4. Disable Beta Updates
  5. Install the stable version

Some earlier prompts were confirmed as bugs and later removed.

Method 6: Try Again Later

Server-side issues can also cause failures. Heavy traffic or backend checks may delay approval.

  1. Exit Settings
  2. Wait 10–30 minutes
  3. Restart your iPhone
  4. Try verification again

Tips

  • Use a credit card instead of a debit card
  • Keep your camera steady during scans
  • Ensure strong lighting when scanning documents
  • Double-check your Apple ID details
  • Avoid beta versions if you want stability
  • Restart your device before retrying

FAQs

Why is iOS 26.4 asking for age verification?

Apple added this feature to comply with growing global safety regulations and restrict adult content access.

What happens if I skip verification?

Some apps and features may get restricted, including content filters and limited access to certain services.

Can I use a debit card?

In most cases, no. The system prefers credit cards for age verification.

Is this available worldwide?

Right now, it mainly affects regions like the UK, but it may expand to other countries.

Summary

  1. Retry the scan and wait longer
  2. Add a valid credit card to your Apple ID
  3. Restart your iPhone
  4. Check your Apple ID details
  5. Update to the latest stable iOS version
  6. Wait and retry if servers are busy

Conclusion

iOS 26.4’s age verification system still feels rough in real-world use, especially when scans fail or verification loops keep appearing. Most issues come down to detection errors, missing payment data, or early software bugs.

Follow the steps above one by one and you should be able to complete verification without much trouble. If the issue continues, waiting for Apple’s next update is often the quickest fix.

  • The biggest let down in tech. Apple of all people built a reputation on “It just works”
Now I have a child’s phone in my 50’s. Jesus Apple. Even Google detects you are over 18 with a simple photo. Get this fixed or I and many others are ditching this Apple nonsense. By the way, this is NOT mandatory in the UK hence your claims!

  • I’m in my 60s.
    We don’t need this crud.
Why didn’t they use there brains, Like providing proof your not “ 1 to 18 years of age “
Usually adults buy iPhones for their young. Well i ain’t young.
    Why should we suffer

  • Iphone continually asks for my password, but then continually rejects this and I cannot get any further! So I get no further! Going round in circles and getting nowhere. Tried restarting the Iphone to no effect. What functions am I likely to loose if I cannot fix this problem?

    1. Your Apple ID can get stuck in a restricted state, you are likely to lose access to some App Store downloads, updates, certain apps or 18+ websites would be blocked, and some Apple services like purchases or Apple Music. The device itself will still work, but account-based features stay limited until the verification goes through or Apple removes the Age verification thingy completely from the 26.4 version.

  • I don’t have a credit card for verification. Is iOS 26.3 still going to be okay until a new iOS 26.4.1 is released?
