iOS 27 release date: When Apple’s next iPhone update is coming

iOS 27 Public Beta 2 Now Available, Here’s How to Install It and What’s New

Apple is preparing to release iOS 27 to iPhone users in September 2026, following several months of developer and public beta testing. Apple has only confirmed that iOS 27 is coming later this year, but its recent software schedule points strongly toward a mid-September launch.

The company released the first iOS 27 developer beta on June 8 after WWDC 2026. Testing has since moved quickly, with iOS 27 developer beta 7, build 24A5424a, arriving on August 24 alongside the corresponding public beta.

When will iOS 27 be released?

Based on Apple’s established schedule, Monday, September 14, 2026 is currently the strongest candidate for the iOS 27 release date. Apple generally announces the final date during its September iPhone event and releases the update shortly before new iPhones reach stores.

Recent major iOS releases followed a similar pattern:

iOS versionPublic release
iOS 26September 15, 2025
iOS 18September 16, 2024
iOS 17September 18, 2023
iOS 16September 12, 2022

All four releases landed on a Monday, making September 14 a logical target for iOS 27.

Apple’s 2026 iPhone event is currently expected during the week of September 7, with September 9 considered one of the likely dates, although Apple has not officially confirmed the event date yet.

Apple still has several steps to complete before the public rollout:

  • Additional developer and public beta releases could arrive through late August and early September.
  • Apple should release an iOS 27 Release Candidate after its September event.
  • The Release Candidate will likely use the same build as the final version unless Apple discovers a significant issue.
  • iOS 27 should then become available through Settings > General > Software Update.

With beta 7 already carrying a build number ending in “a,” iOS 27 development has entered its late testing stage, putting Apple on track for a September release.
