Apple Watch Series 12 is rated for up to 24 hours of battery life, up to 10 hours of outdoor workout tracking and a 15-minute charge that delivers 12 hours of use. Apple says workout time is up 25 percent and charging is 50 percent faster than before.

The all-day figure is unchanged from Series 11, which was also rated at 24 hours. The gains are in the two places that matter for athletes: how long a GPS workout can run, and how quickly a short top-up gets the watch through a night of sleep tracking.

Apple has not published a Low Power Mode figure for Series 12, which is notable because the 38-hour Low Power Mode rating was a fixture of the Series 11 spec sheet. It may appear on Apple’s tech specs page later, but it is not in the announcement.

The 24-hour rating holds even though the new Health Sensing System reads heart rate every 5 seconds and HRV every 5 minutes. Apple credits larger, power-efficient green LEDs in the new sensors, though it has not broken out how much power they save.

15 minutes of charging for 12 hours of use

Apple’s fast-charging claim is that 15 minutes on the charger provides 12 hours of use, 50 percent faster than before. In practice, that is the window between finishing a workout and going to bed, or a morning shower, covering a full night of sleep tracking.

Apple has not said which charger the claim assumes, whether a charger is included in the box, or how long a full charge takes. The iPhone 18 Pro makes a similar 15-minute claim, reaching 50 percent on a cable in about that time.

How Series 12 compares with Ultra 4

  • Ultra 4: up to 50 hours of normal use, which Apple describes as more than two days
  • Ultra 4 Low Power Mode: up to 84 hours
  • Ultra 4 Extended Workout mode: up to 25 hours, 25 percent more than before
  • Ultra 4 Max Extended Workout mode: up to 45 hours with one-second GPS intervals, aimed at 100-mile races
  • Ultra 4 charging: 15 minutes gives 18 hours

The Ultra 4 starts at $799 against $399 for Series 12, so the extra battery costs $400 or more. For anyone whose longest workout is under 10 hours, the Series 12 figure now covers a full marathon or a long ride with margin.

Both watches are available to pre-order now and reach stores on Friday, September 18. Apple has not published Series 12 Low Power Mode hours, weight or display specifications, and it has not said whether cellular models carry a different battery rating.
