AppleCare One costs $19.99 a month for up to three products, which is $479.76 over two years on our arithmetic. That is the only coverage price Apple has published for this launch, because the per-device AppleCare+ figures for iPhone 18 Pro and everything else announced in September 2026 are not published at all.
So the break-even cannot be written the usual way, as one screen repair against one annual premium. What can be worked out is what the subscription costs over a term, what share of your hardware that represents, and the point where the new AppleCare One Family plan takes over.

What $19.99 a month actually covers
Apple introduced AppleCare One in the US in July 2025 as a single subscription covering up to three products, with additional devices at $5.99 a month each. Apple confirms in both of its September 9 press releases that AppleCare+ and AppleCare One plans are available for iPhone 18 Pro and for iPhone Duo.

The detailed benefit list Apple published this month is attached to AppleCare One Family: accidental damage from drops and spills, battery service, priority support from Apple Experts, and theft and loss protection for eligible iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch models. Apple describes those as the same benefits as AppleCare+.
The arithmetic on a three-device plan
A common household set is an iPhone 18 Pro at $1,199, an Apple Watch Series 12 from $399 and AirPods 5 at $129. That is $1,727 of hardware, and it is exactly three products, so one $19.99 plan covers all of it.

Those figures are our arithmetic on Apple’s published monthly price. Adding a fourth device takes the plan to $25.98 a month, or $623.52 over 24 months.
Read the middle column rather than the right one. Charging the whole subscription to the phone makes the coverage look expensive, but the same $19.99 is also protecting the watch and the earbuds.
Why the real break-even needs a number Apple has not given
A break-even needs two sides. Apple has published the cost of coverage and it has not published the cost of going without: there is no listed out-of-warranty repair price for iPhone 18 Pro, no service fee for an accidental damage claim on these models, and no published repair price for an iPhone Duo screen or hinge.
What is on the record is the replacement cost. A new iPhone 18 Pro 256GB is $1,199 from Apple, which is two and a half times what two years of AppleCare One costs. On that basis the plan pays for itself if it saves you one full replacement inside two years, and the case gets stronger with each device you put on the plan.
Figures for per-device AppleCare+ that circulated earlier in 2026 have not been confirmed against any September 2026 product, so do not budget from them.
When AppleCare One Family at $49.99 is the cheaper plan
AppleCare One Family arrives on September 14 at $49.99 a month for up to six people set up through Family Sharing. Apple’s terms say newly purchased devices are added automatically at no extra cost, and the price stays the same regardless of how many eligible products end up covered.
Three separate AppleCare One plans cost $59.97 a month. Family is $49.99, so a three-person household saves $9.98 a month, or $119.76 a year, and stops counting devices. That is our arithmetic on Apple’s two published prices.
The limit to watch is claims. Family allows six total claims per year across the whole group, not six per person, and devices must be less than four years old and in good working condition to be added.
The catches worth naming
- It is a subscription. Stop paying and the cover stops, unlike a one-time AppleCare+ purchase.
- The Apple Upgrade lease does not include AppleCare. Apple’s own wording is that customers can add an AppleCare subscription, so a $34.99 monthly lease is not a coverage plan.
- Theft and loss is published as part of the Family plan’s benefit list. Do not assume the same wording applies elsewhere until Apple posts it.
What has not been confirmed
Apple has not published monthly or annual AppleCare+ prices for iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max, iPhone Duo, AirPods 5, Apple Watch Series 12 or Apple Watch Ultra 4. The rows exist in Apple’s support tables, but the figures are not in the pages Apple serves. It has also not published service fees or repair prices for any of them.
AppleCare One Family goes live on Monday, September 14, the same day iOS 27 ships, and iPhone 18 Pro pre-orders open at 5 a.m. PT on Saturday, September 12. Coverage can be added at checkout, so the decision does not have to be made before the phone is in your hand.
