In iOS 27 Notes, a link can point to one section of a note instead of the whole note. Place the insertion point or select some text, tap the Forward button, tap Add Link, then tap Link to Section and pick the section.
That makes long notes far easier to get around, whether it’s a trip plan with a section per city or meeting notes with a heading per week. Link to Section appears in Apple’s iOS 27 iPhone User Guide. The iOS 26 version of the same page covered links to webpages and whole notes only.
First, give the note sections
Apple’s guide is clear on the order: “To link to a section of a note, first organize a note with sections.” You build those sections with headings.

- In the note, select the text you want as a heading.
- Tap the Format button, then tap Heading or Subheading.
- Add content to the section. Repeat for each section you want.
Sections can also be collapsed and expanded, which Apple pitches as a way to manage and outline long notes.
Link to a section in the same note
- Open the note, then select the text you want to turn into a link, or tap to place the insertion point.
- Tap the Forward button, then tap Add Link.
- Tap Link to Section, then select a section.
- To set the link’s name, turn on Use Section Title or enter a custom link name.
- Tap Done.
One good use is a short contents list at the top of a long note, with a link to each section below it.
Link to a section in another note
- In the note where you want the link, select text or tap to place the insertion point.
- Tap the Forward button, then tap Add Link.
- Start typing the title of the other note, then select it.
- Tap Link to Section, then select a section.
- Tap Done.
For a link to another note, Apple offers Use Note Title as the naming option, or you can enter a custom name. A packing list could link straight to the flight details section of a separate itinerary note, for example.
Renamed headings update their links
Apple says: “If the title of a linked note or section changes, any link that uses the note or section title as its name is updated automatically.” Links named with Use Section Title or Use Note Title keep up with your edits.
To edit or remove a link, touch and hold it, then choose an action. Apple lists no model requirement for Link to Section, so it should work on any iPhone that runs iOS 27, including the new iPhone 18 Pro.
