Apple never says iPhone Duo has no crease. It says the inner display has a custom nano-texture finish that reduces glare and minimizes the visible crease, and those two claims are the same claim, because a crease on a folding screen is mostly something you see in a reflection rather than something you see in the image.
Whether it bothers you is therefore a question about light and viewing angle, not about a defect. Apple has published no crease depth and nobody outside Apple has used a Duo for more than a demo, so the useful thing to do now is read the claim precisely.

What nano-texture actually does
A nano-texture finish scatters incoming light across the surface instead of bouncing it back as a mirror image. On a flat display that turns a hard reflection of a window or a ceiling light into a soft, dim wash.

That matters on a fold because the crease region is a shallow change in the surface angle. On a glossy folding screen it reads as a bright line, since it catches a reflection at a slightly different angle from the panel either side of it. Diffuse the reflection and the line has much less to show.
So Apple is not claiming the panel is flat. It is claiming that the thing that makes a crease conspicuous has been damped. That is a real engineering answer, and it is also a narrower promise than the marketing shorthand people are repeating.
The second half of the answer is mechanical
Apple describes the layers themselves as designed to move. Its product page says optically clear adhesives let the display layers glide, which is how a folding stack avoids concentrating the bend into a single crushed line.
Above that sits a custom polymer cover Apple rates at 40 percent higher stiffness than the industry standard, laid over high-strength glass layers, then the scratch-resistant coating. Apple also says the hinge has more than 100 components with custom adhesives for flex relief.
Taken together, that is a stack built to spread the bend, and a surface built to hide what is left of it. Neither claim comes with a number you can check.

Whether it will bother you
Our reading is that it depends far more on where you use the phone than on how sensitive you are. Under a single overhead light source at arm length, a diffused surface should make the fold line hard to pick out. Held at a shallow angle against a bright window, any folding panel shows its geometry.
It is also worth separating the two senses in play. Sight is what nano-texture addresses. Touch is not, and Apple has not said anything about whether a fingertip finds the fold when you scroll. That silence is not evidence either way.
If the crease is the thing standing between you and a purchase, the sensible move is to handle one at an Apple Store rather than to trust any early verdict, including this one. The full Duo specification is public, the lived experience is not.
What Apple has not said
Apple has not published a crease measurement, a hinge cycle rating, an image of the inner display under raking light, or any statement about how the nano-texture finish holds up to cleaning. It has also not said whether the inner panel is user-serviceable or what a replacement costs.
