To see Local Lists in Apple Maps on iOS 27, type “Local Lists” into the search field, tap Guides, then pick a collection such as restaurants or kid-friendly spots. The feature works only in select U.S. cities, and Apple doesn’t say which ones.

Apple describes Local Lists as “relevant collections of locations trending in your area.” It’s one of the Maps additions in iOS 27, which Apple released on September 14, the date it confirmed at its September event.

How to open Local Lists

  1. Go to the Maps app on your iPhone.
  2. Tap the search field.
  3. Enter “Local Lists.”
  4. Tap Guides.
  5. Tap a collection, such as restaurants or kid-friendly spots.

Local Lists doesn’t have a button of its own. It lives inside search, so typing the name is the way in, and Apple gives the same route on two pages of its iPhone User Guide.

If no collections appear, your area may not be covered. Apple’s “What’s new in iOS 27” page says Local Lists is available in the U.S. only, and the user guide narrows that to select U.S. cities.

Where the suggestions come from

Apple says the suggestions “are based on what people view, share, and interact with most on Apple Maps.” Popularity among Maps users decides what appears, not an editor.

That makes the lists good for finding where people are going and less suited to finding somewhere quiet. For a different kind of recommendation, Maps also has its Guides We Love collections. Scroll down from the main Maps screen and tap Guides We Love to browse by city, interest or publisher.

Save or share a list

Local Lists open from Guides. Apple’s page on guides in Maps says to tap a guide’s cover to open it and scroll down to see its places, and lists these options:

  • Share it: tap Share, then choose an option.
  • Save it: tap Add to Guides.
  • Find it again later: tap Places, then tap Guides.
  • Close it: tap the Close button.

Some guides also include App Clip buttons, which Apple says let you do things like reserve a table directly from a guide.

Other quick ways to find nearby places

If Local Lists isn’t available where you are, Maps still has its standard nearby search. Tap the search field, then tap a category such as Grocery Stores or Restaurants below Find Nearby. You can also type something like “parks” and tap the Search Nearby result.

There’s a shortcut from the Home Screen as well: touch and hold the Maps icon, then tap Search Nearby. Apple notes that nearby suggestions aren’t available in every country or region, and points to its iOS and iPadOS Feature Availability website for details.
