watchOS 27 lets Apple Music subscribers pin the albums, artists, playlists, songs, and music videos they reach for most often. Pinned items appear at the top of the Music library on Apple Watch, reducing the scrolling needed before a workout or commute.
Apple explains the feature in its watchOS 27 user guide. The main restriction is simple: an item must already be in your library before it can be pinned. An artist qualifies when at least some of that artist’s music is saved.
How to pin music on Apple Watch
- Open the Music app on Apple Watch.
- Open the playlist, artist, album, or song you want.
- Tap the More button, then choose Pin Playlist, Pin Artist, Pin Album, or Pin followed by the item’s name.
For a song, the same command is available from the More menu beside the track or from the Now Playing screen. The pinned item then moves to the top of Library. This does not automatically download it for offline playback, which remains a separate step covered in our guide to adding music to Apple Watch.

Choose what a pinned item does
Apple also lets users decide what happens after tapping a pin. From the Music Home screen, choose Tap Action, then select an action such as opening the item’s page, playing it, or shuffling it. A play or shuffle symbol appears beside the name when either direct playback option is active.
To remove a pin, return to Library, touch and hold the pinned item, and choose Unpin. The music stays in the library. Only its shortcut disappears from the top.
The feature complements watchOS 27’s other music tools, including automatic song recognition on Series 12 and Ultra 4. Pinning, however, is about organizing music already chosen by the user and works independently of Shazam results.
