iOS 27.2 RC notes tell Quest lab patients to wait for results before updating

Apple’s iOS 27.2 release candidate notes tell anyone with an upcoming Quest lab appointment to wait to update iOS versions until they receive their results. Apple lists it as a known issue (184530996) and says lab results are also available under Browse > Lab Results in the Health app.

The note sits in the iOS and iPadOS 27.2 release notes, which cover the iOS and iPadOS 27.2 RC build. Release candidate notes describe the build that is closest to the final iOS 27.2 release.

What Apple’s note says

Apple files the entry under a section called Quest Lab Appointments. Here is the exact wording of the issue and the workaround.

  • Known issue: “If you have an upcoming lab appointment, wait to update iOS versions until you receive your results. Contact Quest directly to reschedule your appointment if you run into any issues.”
  • Workaround: “Lab results are also available under Browse > Lab Results.”

The note does not describe what fails, how many people are affected, or whether the problem is on the iPhone side or on Quest’s side. It only gives the advice to wait, the instruction to contact Quest, and the Browse path for results.

Who this affects

The note matters to anyone who has booked a Quest lab visit and expects results to show up on their iPhone. If that is you, the simplest reading of Apple’s advice is this:

  • If your appointment is coming up, stay on your current iOS version for now.
  • Once your results arrive, you can update as normal.
  • If something goes wrong with the appointment itself, contact Quest directly to reschedule. Apple points you to Quest here, not to Apple Support.
  • If you have already updated and cannot find your results where you expect them, open the Health app and go to Browse > Lab Results.

If you do not use Quest for lab work, this known issue does not describe anything that applies to you.

How to check your results in Health

Apple’s workaround uses the Browse tab, which lists your Health categories. The path Apple gives is short:

  • Open the Health app on your iPhone.
  • Tap Browse.
  • Tap Lab Results.

That is the full workaround Apple lists. It does not say whether results appear in other places after the update, so Browse > Lab Results is the place to look if a summary or notification you expected does not show up.

The other Health notes in the RC

The Quest entry is not the only Health item in the iOS 27.2 RC notes. Apple lists two Health known issues as well:

  • Personalized summaries might not generate as expected in the Insights tab (186964423).
  • The redesigned Health app is not included in this build. Apple says it was available in the previous beta for testing purposes only, and that Health app data from the previous beta remains on your device and is viewable in Settings. Apple says the redesigned Health app “will be available again in an upcoming iOS beta” (188843443).

We covered that second change when it first appeared, in our report on beta 4 removing the redesigned Health app. The RC notes repeat the same wording, so the redesign is still out of this build.

Other known issues worth knowing

The rest of the RC notes are mostly aimed at developers, but one entry also touches everyday use:

  • Describe a Shortcut might fail with the error “Something went wrong. Try again later.” (187499433)

The remaining items cover App Tracking Transparency, Nearby Interaction, Simulator, StoreKit testing and a UIKit change to default layout margins. None of those change what a regular iPhone owner sees when booking or reading a lab test.

What to do now

If you are on the public beta or developer beta and have a Quest appointment booked, Apple’s advice is to hold off on installing newer builds until your results arrive. If you are on a released version of iOS 27 and waiting for iOS 27.2, the same advice applies once the update reaches your iPhone: check whether you have a Quest appointment pending before you tap Update Now.

Apple has not given a ship date for iOS 27.2. The RC notes are the best guide to what the final build will contain, and for now they tell Quest patients to wait until their results are in.
