Apple has released macOS Tahoe 26.7 and macOS Sequoia 15.8 for Mac users who are staying on older versions instead of upgrading to macOS 27 Golden Gate. The updates are available now through Software Update and focus on important security fixes rather than new features.
macOS Tahoe 26.7 carries build number 25G229, while macOS Sequoia 15.8 uses build 24H23. These are the same builds Apple distributed as the fourth Release Candidates on September 9, suggesting no additional build change was needed before public release.
| Update | Build number | Main focus |
|---|---|---|
| macOS Tahoe 26.7 | 25G229 | Security fixes and stability |
| macOS Sequoia 15.8 | 24H23 | Security fixes and stability |

The updates mainly include:
- Important security fixes for supported Macs.
- Bug fixes and general system stability improvements developed during an unusually long Release Candidate cycle.
- Continued security support for users who cannot or do not want to install macOS 27.
- No major new apps, interface changes, or headline features.
Apple has not yet published the full CVE list for these releases at the time of writing, so the exact vulnerabilities addressed remain unclear. Its recent Mac updates have included fixes for components such as Screen Sharing, ImageIO, the kernel, and other system services.
The Mac Observer previously covered the macOS Tahoe 26.7 and Sequoia 15.8 RC 2 release, as well as the serious Screen Sharing vulnerability fixed in recent macOS updates.
macOS 27 is also available
These maintenance releases arrive alongside macOS 27 Golden Gate, which introduces a much larger set of changes including Siri AI, Apple Foundation Models, new Shortcuts capabilities, and Safari improvements. macOS 27 only supports Apple silicon Macs, which makes Tahoe 26.7 particularly important for compatible Intel Macs that cannot move to the new release.
