Apple is reportedly exploring a screenless fitness band as one possible direction for a broader rethink of its wearable lineup. The concept could offer Apple Watch-style health tracking without another display, but Apple has not announced a product, name, price, or release date.
Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman described the work in his August 9 Power On newsletter. According to the report, Apple’s industrial design team has evaluated devices without displays alongside different screen types, sizes, price tiers, and other directions for the Apple Watch family.
The screenless idea would put health and fitness sensing ahead of apps, watch faces, and notifications. It would also place Apple closer to products such as Whoop bands, but the comparison describes a product category, not confirmed Apple specifications. There is no reliable information about sensors, battery life, subscriptions, compatibility, or whether a prototype will ever ship.

Apple’s shipping watch still centers on a display
Apple’s current direction remains the Apple Watch Series 12, which the company introduced with an always-on screen and an updated Health Sensing System. Apple says its new heart sensors measure heart rate every five seconds throughout the day and heart rate variability every five minutes.

A screenless band could theoretically collect similar background data while letting users review results on an iPhone, but Gurman’s report does not establish that design. It also does not say that such a band would replace Apple Watch. Apple may instead use experiments to inform future watches or abandon them before production.
For buyers, the important distinction is between exploration and a product roadmap. Apple’s announced wearable is Series 12, while the screenless band remains one of several reported ideas under evaluation. Until Apple confirms hardware or software, there is no basis for delaying a purchase around an assumed launch window.
