Following the recent WWDC presentation, Apple confirmed exactly which tablets will run its next major software update. The company is preparing to drop support for a few older models this fall. If you want to know if your current tablet makes the cut, the new compatibility list clearly shows what hardware will get the fresh tools and interface changes.
Check out the official list of tablets that support the update
Every year, older hardware eventually loses the ability to handle demanding new software. This time around, models like the eighth-generation base iPad, the third-generation iPad Air, and the fifth-generation iPad mini will not move forward. Those older devices will likely stick to receiving standard security patches instead.
If you own a newer tablet, you are good to go. The official list of supported devices includes:
- iPad Pro 11-inch and 13-inch (M1 models and later)
- iPad Pro 12.9-inch (3rd generation and later)
- iPad Pro 11-inch (1st generation and later)
- iPad Air (4th generation and later)
- iPad (9th generation and later)
- iPad mini (6th generation and later)
Even if your device is on this list, keep in mind that some heavy features might only work on the absolute newest chips. Things like complex on-device smart tools often require the extra memory found in the M-series processors.
