Apple’s surprise products at its “Let’s meet at our place” event were a large wireless charging plate for its new products, and an AirPods wireless charging case.

Apple AirPower wireless charging mat

Apple’s AirPower charging plate coming next year

The wireless charging base can charge the iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, or iPhone X, along with Apple Watch Series 3, and AirPods with the new wireless charging case—all at the same time.

Thanks to all of the leaks that hit the internet ahead of today’s event there wasn’t much left to surprise us, but Apple managed to pull at least a little something out of its secrets bag. The wireless charging pad was predicted, although it wasn’t expected to be a an accessory that charges multiple devices at the same time.

Rumors claimed new AirPods were coming, although that proved to be off because what we’re getting instead is a wireless charging-compatible case.

AirPower isn’t coming until next year and for now Apple isn’t offering up any details on how many months we’ll have to wait.

So … how does the user use the phone while charging?
Can I use the charging mat while using maps for navigation while on a long trip (GPS burns through the battery)?

Is wireless charging really a benefit if instead of plugging in a cable to the iPhone, I plug in a charging pad?

What problem is being solved by this solution?
