If you are hoping to buy a new entry-level desktop computer from Apple, you might have to wait a little longer. The company has run completely out of stock of its popular $599 base model Mac mini. The online store now lists the device as currently unavailable for delivery, meaning customers cannot even place an order for the machine right now. This supply issue affects all units with 256GB of storage.
Parts shortages stop shoppers from buying the desktop computer
If you check other stores like Amazon, the situation with the Mac Mini is basically the same. Those shops only have the more expensive Pro versions on their virtual shelves. Finding a baseline model of this small desktop is becoming a real challenge for shoppers right now.
People who decide to spend more money for the 512GB version will still face a six-week wait time. Some of the other custom setups show delivery estimates of nine or ten weeks. The main reason for this delay seems to be a widespread shortage of memory chips and storage drives across the tech industry.
Apple is reportedly saving its limited supply of these computer parts for its laptop line, which sells in much higher numbers. At the same time, many people are buying small desktops to run artificial intelligence programs at home. This pushes the demand for the machine even higher than normal.
While some buyers hope this lack of inventory means a newer model is coming soon, reports suggest an upgraded version might not launch until later in the fall.
