Apple says Live Rewind on Apple Watch cannot be used secretly because activation requires a deliberate double press of the Digital Crown, plays a chime, and shows a full-screen animation with a microphone indicator. The chime plays even when the watch is muted or headphones are connected.
After activation, Live Rewind shows only a text snippet covering the last 15 seconds of speech. Apple says it does not continue transcribing in the background and does not save the text unless the user asks Siri about it or chooses to save it.

What remains unconfirmed
Apple has not said how easy the chime is to hear in a noisy room or whether beta behavior will change by region. Would these signals make you comfortable using Live Rewind in public?
Apple’s design also separates Live Rewind from a conventional recorder. The watch presents a short text window instead of an audio file, and the text is temporary unless the user takes an additional action. If the user saves the snippet or asks Siri about it, Apple says the content can be sent securely to Private Cloud Compute. People should still follow local consent rules and tell others when a conversation is being processed, even though Apple has built visible signals into the feature.
