Call Context is a new iOS 27 feature in the Phone app that pulls relevant details out of your other apps while you are calling a business, and Apple’s own example is a confirmation code sitting in Mail when you call an airline. It ships with the free iOS 27 update on Monday, September 14, in English only.
Apple lists Call Context among the capabilities of Siri AI rather than as a standalone Phone feature, which is what sets its requirements: an Apple Intelligence device and a supported language. Apple describes it as proactive, so the information is surfaced during the call rather than searched for.

What Apple says Call Context does
The description on Apple’s iOS 27 page is short: the feature will “proactively surface relevant information from across your apps when calling a business”, with a confirmation code from Mail when you call an airline as the worked example. Apple’s Siri AI material adds reservation codes and confirmation numbers to that list.

The practical shape of it is a call to a hotel, an airline or a delivery company where the number you need is buried in an email or a message thread. Apple has not shown the interface, said which apps are searched, or explained how the business on the other end of the call is identified.
What you need to use it
Because Apple files Call Context under Siri AI, the hardware bar is the Apple Intelligence one. Apple’s device list is all iPhone 16 models and later, plus iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max, so a phone that runs iOS 27 does not automatically get Call Context: the update itself goes back to iPhone 11 and iPhone SE (2nd generation).
- An Apple Intelligence iPhone: iPhone 16 or later, iPhone 15 Pro or iPhone 15 Pro Max, which includes the new iPhone 18 Pro and its A20 Pro chip.
- iOS 27, free from September 14.
- The device set to English. Apple lists Call Context as English only, unlike Apple Intelligence as a whole, which supports 16 languages.
- Siri AI, which Apple ships as a beta on September 14 with French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish following in October.
One consequence of that filing is regional. Apple says Siri AI “will not be initially available in the EU on iOS, iPadOS, and watchOS”, and it has not said in as many words whether Call Context travels with that restriction, though the feature sits in the same list.
Call Context next to the other context features
Call Context is one of three context-driven additions in iOS 27, and they do not all arrive at the same time.
| Feature | What it does | Language | Timing |
|---|---|---|---|
| Call Context (Phone) | Surfaces information from your apps while you call a business | English only | With iOS 27 on September 14 |
| Mail suggestions | Context-based quick actions, including actions in third-party apps | English only | Listed with iOS 27 |
| Messages suggestions | Quick actions from a conversation, such as adding a calendar event or finding a photo | English only | Apple says it is coming in a future software update |
Call Context also appears beyond the iPhone. Apple lists it for macOS 27 Golden Gate, where Siri AI is available in the EU when the Mac is set to a supported language, and Apple’s watchOS 27 feature list names it as well.
What Apple has not said
- Whether Call Context works on incoming calls from a business, or only on calls you place. Apple’s wording covers calling a business.
- Which apps it draws from beyond Mail, and whether Messages, Wallet, Calendar or third-party apps are included.
- How the business is recognized, whether through Contacts, a Wallet pass, Maps or the dialed number.
- Whether the matching runs on-device or through Private Cloud Compute, and whether it counts against Apple Intelligence daily usage limits.
- Whether it is affected by the EU restriction that holds Siri AI back on iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch.
- Any interface detail: where the information appears during a call, or how to dismiss it.
iOS 27 is free on Monday, September 14 for iPhone 11 and later, and Call Context needs one of the Apple Intelligence iPhones on that list. Our iOS 27 release date guide covers the rest of the update, the event recap has every September 9 announcement, and Call Context also reaches Apple Watch Series 12 through watchOS 27 and the iPhone Duo when it arrives in October.
