Apple has published exactly one sentence about CarPlay in iOS 27. It sits on Apple’s Siri page and reads: “Siri in CarPlay keeps you informed without taking your hands off the wheel.” There is no CarPlay section on Apple’s iOS 27 page, and no list of CarPlay changes anywhere else Apple has posted.
That is worth stating plainly, because the rest of the update is documented app by app. Apple names new features for Phone, Messages, Mail, Maps, Wallet, Safari, Photos, Home and Health on the same pages. CarPlay gets the line above and nothing else, and iOS 27 itself arrives on Monday, September 14 as a free update.
CarPlay in iOS 27: the published facts
| Item | What Apple has published |
|---|---|
| iOS 27 release | Monday, September 14, 2026, free update |
| CarPlay mentions across Apple’s iOS 27 material | One, on Apple’s Siri page |
| The wording | “Siri in CarPlay keeps you informed without taking your hands off the wheel” |
| Vehicle support | Varies by manufacturer and model, covering vehicles from 2016 onward |
| Siri AI status | Beta, English at launch |
| More languages | French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish in October |
| EU | Siri AI not initially available in the EU on iOS |
| A CarPlay feature list for iOS 27 | Not published |
Apple’s own note on CarPlay availability says support varies by vehicle manufacturer and model, and covers cars from 2016 onward. That describes which cars have CarPlay at all. It is not a statement about what iOS 27 adds to them.

The one line, read carefully
The sentence appears in the material where Apple describes Siri AI, the assistant it is shipping in beta this year. The sentence itself names Siri and CarPlay, and what it describes is staying informed while driving.
So the honest version is narrow. Apple presents Siri in CarPlay as part of how it is talking about Siri in 2026. It has not published which apps the new assistant can act in from a car screen, whether every Siri AI capability is available there, or any CarPlay date separate from the September 14 release. The September 9 announcements did not fill that in, and neither did the keynote itself.
Every condition on Siri AI applies inside the car too
Siri AI is a beta. Apple says it is rolling out in English first, with French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish following in October, and it requires a device on Apple’s Apple Intelligence list. For iPhones that means all iPhone 16 models and later, iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max, and the new A20 Pro phones.
| Requirement | Apple’s published position |
|---|---|
| iPhone | An Apple Intelligence device: all iPhone 16 models and later, plus iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max |
| Software | iOS 27, free from Monday, September 14 |
| Language | English at launch, five more languages in October |
| Region | Not initially available in the EU on iOS; features unavailable in China while Apple works through regulatory requirements |
| Usage | Server-backed features carry daily usage limits, and expanded access will cost money in future |
| Vehicle | CarPlay support varies by manufacturer and model |
Apple states that features relying on server-side models are subject to daily limits that vary by feature, request complexity and system demand, and that expanded access “will be available for a fee in the future”. None of those conditions gets an exception for driving.
What is not new about CarPlay this year
CarPlay has done plenty for years, and none of it becomes an iOS 27 feature because the update happens to land on Monday. Apple has documented no interface change, no new app category and no new vehicle capability for this release.
The safe way to read it: whatever your car already does with CarPlay is carried over rather than added. If that changes, the change will appear in Apple’s own documentation first.
What Apple has not said
- Whether the new Siri AI assistant runs in CarPlay in full, in part, or later
- Any CarPlay feature list, interface change or supported-vehicle list tied to iOS 27
- Whether anything differs between wired and wireless CarPlay under iOS 27
- Any CarPlay date other than the September 14 iOS 27 release
- Whether the EU position on Siri AI on iOS changes what a driver there sees on the car screen
iOS 27 arrives Monday, September 14 as a free update for iPhone 11 and later, plus iPhone SE (2nd generation and later). iPhone 18 Pro pre-orders open Saturday, September 12 at 5 a.m. PT, and those phones reach stores Friday, September 18 with iOS 27 already installed. Anything CarPlay-specific has to come from Apple after that.
