The largest published saving on an Apple Watch Series 12 does not come from Apple. Best Buy’s listing takes up to $325 off a Series 12 pre-order when you trade in an eligible Apple Watch, and that offer expires 9/18/2026. Apple’s own price is From $399, and Apple is not discounting it.
Series 12 pre-orders opened on September 9 and the watch reaches stores on Friday, September 18, the same day Best Buy’s offer expires. It is the only confirmed retailer launch promotion on any of Apple’s new hardware.

Best Buy’s $325 is the only confirmed launch discount
Best Buy’s listing puts Series 12 pre-orders at from $449 for the 46mm GPS model, from $549 for GPS plus Cellular and up to $799 for titanium, and says trading in an eligible Apple Watch takes up to $325 off those pre-orders. My Best Buy members get free shipping, and joining that tier costs nothing.

Up to $325 is a ceiling, not a price. Best Buy has not published which watch earns which amount, and ceilings are reserved for recent models in flawless condition. Treat $325 as the best case for a late-model Ultra, not what an older Series 7 will produce.
Note the starting point too. Best Buy’s cheapest listed Series 12 is the 46mm at $449. Apple’s From $399 covers the 42mm.
What Apple itself will take off
Apple’s Trade In page publishes no per-model dollar table for Apple Watch. It routes you through condition questions, and Apple’s wording is that the amount depends on the device, model, manufacturer and condition. The figures below are the values recorded for individual models when Apple changed them on September 9, not a list Apple publishes.
- Apple Trade In, applied as instant credit at the point of sale: Apple Watch Ultra 3 at $430, Series 11 at $200, Series 10 at $150, Series 9 at $115, SE 3 at $115, Series 8 at $90 and Series 7 at $65.
- The Veterans and Military Purchase Program, a flat 10 percent off, verified through ID.me. Apple names the catch: Apple Card Monthly Installments and Apple Upgrade are not available in that storefront.
- Apple Card Daily Cash at 3 percent on Apple purchases, paid up front, or $11.97 on a $399 watch.
- Apple Upgrade, the Klarna lease, from $11.99 a month over 24 months for the 42mm. It is a lease, not a purchase, and AppleCare is not included.

Those subtractions are our arithmetic on Apple’s and Best Buy’s published figures. They do not stack: Best Buy’s credit is Best Buy’s, not Apple’s, and the military storefront rules out both Apple payment routes.
When Apple Watch SE 3 is the smarter saving
SE 3 starts at $249. That $150 gap is larger and more certain than any trade-in ceiling, and SE 3 is back on sale after briefly vanishing before the event. It takes watchOS 27 on September 14 like every current model, so the split is hardware.
- Series 12 has a second-generation electrical heart sensor and a blood oxygen sensor. SE 3 has neither ECG nor blood oxygen.
- Series 12 uses the S11 chip and the new Health Sensing System, reading heart rate every five seconds and HRV every five minutes. SE 3 uses the S10.
- Battery is up to 24 hours on Series 12 against up to 18 hours on SE 3.
- Series 12 peaks at 2000 nits behind Ceramic Shield 2 on aluminium. SE 3 peaks at 1000 nits behind Ion-X glass.
- Audio Intelligence, Apple’s new on-watch listening features, requires Series 12 or Apple Watch Ultra 4.
Both carry a 50 metre water rating and a temperature sensor. If you want the new sensors, pay the $150. If you want a watch, SE 3 is the biggest saving here.
What has not been confirmed
- Apple has not published Series 12 prices for titanium, ceramic or cellular configurations. The retailer figures above are the retailers’ prices, not Apple’s.
- Apple has not published band prices for Series 12, or any price for the Hermes models.
- Apple has not published an AppleCare Plus price for Series 12.
- Best Buy has not published per-model trade-in values, or whether its offer runs past 9/18/2026.
- Walmart, Costco and Target have published no Series 12 offer. Amazon lists the watch at list price.
