Photographic Styles on iPhone 18 Pro now adjust four things instead of two. Apple’s tech specs list Photographic Styles 3 for the new phones, and its overview page describes new texture and grain controls sitting alongside the tone and color pad that iPhone 16 and 17 owners already know.
Styles are not filters. They are applied during image processing, and on recent models Apple lets you revisit the choice in Photos afterwards. This guide covers how to pick a style, what each of the four controls does, how to change the default, and how to reset when a photo looks wrong. The steps below come from Apple’s current Photographic Styles support guide, which is written for iOS 26. The texture and grain controls are new in Photographic Styles 3 on iOS 27, and Apple has not yet published a support article for them, so the wording of those two sliders may shift slightly after September 14.
What tone, color, texture and grain each change
Apple’s guide describes the pad as a way to adjust tone and color at the same time, and the slider beneath it as intensity control. The two new controls come from Apple’s iPhone 18 Pro overview and, for the Duo, its product page, which lists Photographic Styles 3 with tone, color, texture and grain.

Apple’s preset names in the current guide include Rich Contrast, Vibrant, Warm and Cool, with Amber, Rose Gold, Quiet and Ethereal added on recent models. Apple has not published the full list for iPhone 18 Pro.
How to choose and customize a style in Camera
One requirement first. Apple notes that on the latest models Camera must capture in High Efficiency format if you want to edit the style later in Photos. Go to Settings, Camera, Formats, then tap High Efficiency before you start.
- Open Camera.
- Tap the controls button, or swipe up from the camera modes at the bottom of the screen.
- Tap Styles, then swipe left or right to preview the available styles.
- Drag your finger on the pad to adjust tone and color at the same time.
- Drag the slider beneath the pad to control how strongly the style affects your photos.
- On iOS 27, adjust the Texture and Grain controls that Photographic Styles 3 adds to the same panel.
- Tap the reset button to return the style to its defaults, or tap to close the Style menu and shoot.
Camera Control offers a faster route. Apple’s guide lists Styles and Tone among the six settings in its overlay: lightly press the button twice, slide to Styles, press to select, then slide to move through the presets. How to change or remove the default style
Once you pick a style in Camera, it stays selected for future shots. Apple’s guide gives two ways to go back.
- In Camera, open Styles and select Standard, or choose another style.
- Or go to Settings, Camera, Photographic Styles, then tap Use Standard or choose a different default.
Photographic Styles on iPhone Duo and the Pro models
The same Photographic Styles 3 set appears on the iPhone Duo when it ships on October 23, with tone, color, texture and grain listed on Apple’s product page. The Duo’s 48MP Main camera has a fixed f/1.6 aperture, so the 18 Pro’s variable aperture gives its styles more background softness to work with.
- iPhone 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max: Photographic Styles 3 with texture and grain, ships September 18.
- iPhone Duo: Photographic Styles 3 with texture and grain, ships October 23.
- iPhone 16 and 17 families: tone and color pad, plus intensity slider, per Apple’s current guide. Apple has not said whether texture and grain reach them with iOS 27.
If a style looks wrong or will not change
- Skin looks flat or waxy: pull the Texture control back toward its default, or reset the style and start from Standard.
- The Edit screen in Photos has no style controls: the photo was shot without High Efficiency. Change Settings, Camera, Formats, then reshoot.
- Every new photo comes out warm or cool: a style is still selected. Use Settings, Camera, Photographic Styles, Use Standard.
- Texture and Grain are missing from the panel: they are Photographic Styles 3 controls and need iOS 27, which arrives on September 14.
iPhone 18 Pro pre-orders open Saturday, September 12 at 5 a.m. PT, and the phones are in stores on September 18.
