The iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max are the oldest iPhones on Apple’s Apple Intelligence list, so on Monday, September 14 they get the full iOS 27 feature set as most people understand it: Siri AI in beta, Image Playground, the new Photos editing tools and Call Context.
What they do not get is the third tier Apple quietly added this year. Siri voice customization and the improved on-device Dictation model are limited to the iPhone 17 Pro generation and newer, and Apple Reference Image capture is limited to iPhone 18 Pro models.

What arrives on an iPhone 15 Pro
- Siri AI in beta, with personal context across Messages, Mail and Photos, onscreen awareness, world knowledge from the web, back-and-forth conversation and system-wide app actions
- The Siri app, which gathers your conversations in one place and uses iCloud to sync that history to your other Apple devices
- Write with Siri, which drafts from scratch or gives feedback on what you have written in Mail and Messages
- Visual Intelligence, including the new Siri mode in Camera that starts a visual search from the viewfinder
- Image Playground with photorealistic images, Genmoji, and Image Wand in Notes
- Photos with Spatial Reframing, the Extend tool and an enhanced Clean Up that removes larger objects
- Call Context in Phone, which surfaces a confirmation code from Mail when you call a business, in English
- Wallet bill splitting with Apple Cash, which scans a receipt using Siri mode in Camera, in the United States only
- Describe an event in Calendar, Describe a Shortcut in Shortcuts, and Safari Notify Me for price changes and restocks
The iPhone 15 Pro is also the exact floor for Live Translation with AirPods. Apple requires an iPhone 15 Pro or later alongside AirPods 4 with ANC, AirPods Pro 2, AirPods Pro 3 or AirPods Max 2.

The tier the iPhone 15 Pro does not reach

Apple extends that third tier to iPads with an M4 or later and Macs with an M3 or later, in both cases with at least 12GB of unified memory, and to Apple Vision Pro with an M5. The pattern is a memory and chip floor rather than an age cutoff, which is why an iPhone 16 Pro misses it too.
The limits that apply even on a supported iPhone
Apple states that server-backed features, Siri AI among them, carry daily usage limits that vary by feature, request complexity and system demand, and that expanded access to those features will be available for a fee in the future. No price and no date accompany that sentence.
Two features on the list above are not ready on Monday either. Messages Suggestions and the Passwords security alerts that can update a weak password are both dated by Apple only as a future software update. Siri AI itself is labeled a beta on every platform it ships on.
Is this the year to move up
That depends on the camera rather than the software, because everything above arrives free. The clearest published difference is the one between generations of Pro hardware, which we broke down in our iPhone 18 Pro versus iPhone 17 Pro comparison and in the variable aperture explainer.
One detail is worth noting for owners of the standard iPhone 15 as well. Apple’s claim that new photos load up to 70 percent faster after capture was measured on an iPhone 15 with a library of 50,000 assets, which makes it the most directly relevant of Apple’s three speed numbers for this generation.
What Apple has not said
Apple has published no per-feature device table for iOS 27, so the only way to confirm a gate is to read the footnote attached to each feature. It has not named the iPhone models that support the latest generation of Photographic Styles, has not listed which features rely on Siri AI and therefore go dark in the EU, and has published no release time, download size or free-space requirement for the update itself.
iOS 27 is free from Monday, September 14. An iPhone 15 Pro will get the assistant, the new Photos tools and the Siri app on day one, and Settings will simply not show the voice and Dictation options reserved for newer hardware. Our event recap covers everything else Apple announced.
