Every Mac that can install macOS 27 Golden Gate on Monday, September 14 is an Apple silicon Mac. Apple’s compatibility list covers seven model lines, the oldest machines on it are from 2020, and no Intel Mac appears anywhere on it.
That list matters more than usual this year, because on the Mac it doubles as the Apple Intelligence list. On the phone the two are far apart: iOS 27 reaches back to the iPhone 11 while full Apple Intelligence starts at the iPhone 15 Pro. On the Mac there is no second cutoff at all.

Two details in that wording are worth reading closely. Four of the seven lines carry the qualifier “with Apple silicon” because those lines also shipped with Intel processors, and the qualifier is doing the excluding. Mac Studio and MacBook Neo never had an Intel version, so neither needs it.

The Mac Pro entry is the only one that names a single year rather than a range. MacBook Neo is the newest name on the list and the only Mac Apple pairs with an A-series chip, the A18 Pro, rather than an M-series one.
Why there is no second cutoff for Apple Intelligence
Apple’s Apple Intelligence page describes the same machines by chip instead of by year: MacBook Neo with A18 Pro, MacBook Air and MacBook Pro from M1, iMac from M1, Mac mini from M1, Mac Studio from M1 Max, and Mac Pro with M2 Ultra.
Lay the two lists side by side and they describe the same hardware. A Mac that can install Golden Gate on Monday can also run Apple Intelligence in all 16 supported languages, and Siri AI in beta. That is the opposite of the iPhone situation, where millions of eligible phones get the update and none of the intelligence features.

An M1 MacBook Air installs Golden Gate, runs Siri AI and gets the redesigned interface, then stops short of those two features. Apple states the rule as a chip generation plus a memory figure, which is not how Macs are sold, so the practical check is the Memory line in About This Mac rather than the model name.
The iPhone 18 Pro clears the same bar on the phone side thanks to the A20 Pro, which is why the two columns above do not line up by age.
What Apple has not said
Apple has not said anything about Intel Macs beyond leaving them off the list, and it has not published what an unlisted Mac should expect after Monday. There is no published release time, no download size and no free space requirement. Apple has not published a table of which Mac configurations shipped with 12GB or more of unified memory, so the advanced tier has to be checked machine by machine. Nor has it said when Siri AI leaves beta, or named the languages that follow the five due in October. No new Mac was announced on September 9, as our event recap recorded.
