Apple’s sentence about Siri AI in the European Union names three operating systems, and macOS is not one of them. The wording is that Siri AI “will not be available initially in the EU in iOS, iPadOS, and watchOS,” while Mac and Apple Vision Pro users in the EU can use it when their system is set to a supported language.
That is a difference readers in Dublin, Berlin or Madrid will meet on Monday, September 14, when an EU Mac gets the assistant on day one and the iPhone next to it running iOS 27 does not. Apple says it is working hard to find a path forward that preserves its users’ privacy and security. It has not published a reason for the split, and none should be assumed.

The product pages carry a trimmed version of the same line, “Siri AI will not be initially available in the EU on iOS, iPadOS, and watchOS.” Both versions list the same three platforms. Neither mentions the Mac, and the only place macOS appears in Apple’s EU wording is on the permitted side of it, next to Apple Vision Pro.

One platform is missing from the argument entirely. tvOS is not in Apple’s Siri AI beta list on any continent, which reads “iOS 27, iPadOS 27, macOS 27, watchOS 27, and visionOS 27.” The Apple Watch Series 12 is doubly affected, since Apple also said watchOS would get Siri AI in a later beta build rather than at launch.
What an EU Mac actually gets on Monday
The Mac version is the full product, not a reduced one, and Apple describes it in the same terms it uses everywhere else:
- Personal context, which searches across apps including Messages, email and photos.
- Broad world knowledge, pulling up to date information from the web.
- Onscreen awareness, answering questions about what is on the display.
- Systemwide app actions, such as drafting an email from scratch or editing and sharing a set of photos.
- Conversational responses, typed or spoken.
- Visual Intelligence through a dedicated keyboard shortcut, which is the Mac equivalent of the Siri mode Apple put in the iPhone Camera app.
- The Siri app, which keeps conversations in one place and syncs the history through iCloud.
Two caveats apply in the EU exactly as they do elsewhere. Apple labels Siri AI a beta, and English is the only supported language until the October additions, so an EU Mac set to German or Dutch is waiting regardless of the regional rule. Server backed features also carry daily usage limits, with expanded access sold for a fee at an unspecified point in the future.
The questions the wording leaves open
The Siri app syncs conversation history through iCloud so a chat started on a Mac can continue on iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch or Apple Vision Pro. Apple has not published what that sync does for someone in the EU whose Mac has Siri AI and whose iPhone 18 Pro does not. It is the obvious follow up question and there is no published answer.
Other regional limits are separate from this one and are easy to confuse with it. Apple Pay Tap to Share is not currently available in the European Economic Area, Call Context and the Messages and Mail suggestions are English only, and Maps Local Lists are limited to the United States. None of those restrictions is the Siri AI rule, and none of them changes on the Mac.
What Apple has not said
Apple has not said why macOS and visionOS sit outside the EU restriction while iOS, iPadOS and watchOS sit inside it. It has not put a date on the word “initially,” has not said whether the three excluded platforms arrive together or separately, and has not said when Siri AI stops being a beta anywhere. There is no published EU specific feature list for the Mac, no statement about whether the Mac experience differs inside the EU, and no Mac specific wording about China beyond the blanket line covering the new Apple Intelligence features. None of this was addressed on stage, as our event recap shows.
The practical step is the same as anywhere else. On Monday, September 14, update a compatible Mac, then set the system language to English if Siri AI does not appear, and check again in October when Apple adds five more languages.
