Tim Cook made a surprise cameo at Apple’s “Surprise and Shine” keynote today, briefly appearing before handing the presentation to new CEO John Ternus.

Cook appeared at the beginning of the September 9 event, despite earlier reports suggesting he would stay out of Apple’s presentation video. When viewers expected him to open the keynote, Cook smiled and said, “No, no, no, not me,” before pointing toward Ternus and saying, “That’s your guy.”

The short appearance marked a symbolic handover after Ternus officially became Apple CEO on September 1, while Cook moved into the executive chairman role.
