The 1TB model at $1,599 is the best value of the three
The jump from 512GB to 1TB costs $300 at list price. On Amazon it costs $260 at the cheapest colors. That’s a fair price for double the storage. If you keep a photo library, offline music or big projects on your Mac, take the 1TB model. You can’t add storage later.

Go for 24GB if you run local AI apps or keep dozens of apps open at once. For browsing, writing, school work and light photo editing, 16GB is enough.
What the 15-inch MacBook Air with M5 gets you over the 13-inch model
Apple released the M5 MacBook Air in March. The 15-inch version gets a bigger screen, a bigger battery and the full 10-core GPU as standard, according to Apple’s spec sheet:
- M5 with a 10-core CPU and 10-core GPU, against an 8-core GPU in the base 13-inch
- 15.3-inch Liquid Retina display at 2880 by 1864 and 500 nits
- Up to 18 hours of video streaming from a 66.5Wh battery
- Two Thunderbolt 4 ports, MagSafe 3 and a headphone jack
- Support for two external displays with the lid open
- 12MP Center Stage camera and a 3.3 pound body
The Air has no fan, so it stays silent under any load. That’s the main reason to pick it over a MacBook Pro for everyday work.
Buy the MacBook Air or spend $660 more on the new M6 MacBook Pro
Apple’s 14-inch MacBook Pro with M6 starts at $1,999 with 1TB and ships November 6. It has a brighter Liquid Retina XDR display, a fan for long workloads and up to 24 hours of battery life. But its screen is smaller than this Air’s. If you want a big screen for less money, the 15-inch Air at $1,599 with 1TB is $400 cheaper than the M6 Pro.
Pick your color first, since Amazon prices the 15-inch Air colors differently
Midnight and starlight are the cheapest colors on most configurations right now. Amazon showed only one midnight 512GB model left at $1,339, so if it goes, the other colors are $10 more. AppleCare+ costs $245 at checkout. Returns are free for 15 days.
