An image file for an unreleased “Apple TV 4K (4th generation)” has reportedly appeared in Apple’s code, offering new evidence that the company is preparing its first streaming-box refresh since 2022. Apple has not announced the model or a release date.
MacRumors contributor Aaron Perris uncovered the file, according to the publication. The image shows a black square box that closely resembles the current Apple TV 4K, suggesting that any major changes may be inside rather than part of an exterior redesign.
What the image confirms and what it does not
The fourth-generation label is the most concrete detail in the file. It indicates that Apple has created an asset for another Apple TV 4K generation, but an internal image can survive from testing even if schedules or specifications change.

The image does not name a processor, memory capacity, storage options, networking standard or remote. Earlier code pointed to an A19 or A19 Pro chip, and reporting has linked the replacement to Siri AI and faster wireless connectivity. Apple’s current technical specifications list an A15 Bionic chip. The present model was announced in October 2022, making the wait for a replacement unusually long. Apple also skipped Apple TV hardware at its September event, as our review of the unannounced September products noted.
A revised Siri Remote has appeared in separate code findings, but it is not visible in this image. The file therefore adds weight to a hardware refresh without confirming the broader feature list often attached to it.
Apple has not published pricing, configurations or regional availability for a fourth-generation model. Until it does, the leaked name and familiar shape are evidence of development, not proof that every rumored upgrade will ship. The existing box remains the only model Apple officially sells.
