Apple’s tech specs list “Haptic Touch” as a feature common to both the inner and outer displays, the same term Apple uses across its current iPhone lineup for a press-and-hold response. What Apple has said about sound, in full
Apple’s iPhone Duo product page and press release describe a detailed camera system, 4K Dolby Vision recording, and calling features built around the fold: Duo FaceTime, which lets a nearby friend join a call from the outer display, and a redesigned Call Context widget. Every one of those features depends on sound reaching a caller and a caller’s voice reaching the microphone, and none of the source material names a speaker, a microphone array, or an audio chip to do it. That is the entire published record on Duo’s audio hardware.
Why a folding chassis makes the silence notable
A phone that splits into two halves raises specific hardware questions a slab phone does not: whether each half carries its own speaker and microphone, whether the earpiece sits above the outer display or the inner one, and whether call quality changes between a call taken closed and one taken open. Duo FaceTime is built around the outer display facing outward so someone else can join a call from it, which implies sound has to project toward whoever is looking at that screen.
