The first iPhone Duo may be the beginning of a full foldable family rather than a one-model experiment. Mark Gurman expects Apple to add more versions over time, and he believes the Duo name was chosen partly because it can accept familiar suffixes such as Max, mini and SE.
Apple has announced only one model, so none of those follow-ups is confirmed. Still, the naming logic offers clues about how the company could move foldables beyond the $1,999 starting point and give buyers more than one size or shape.
What each possible Duo could offer
- iPhone Duo Max: A larger inner display for video, games and multitasking.
- iPhone Duo mini: A smaller clamshell design focused on portability.
- iPhone Duo SE: A less expensive model with selected compromises.
Gurman writes that Apple will eventually have “a family of foldable iPhones” in the same way established competitors expanded their foldable ranges. He also notes that rumored alternatives such as iPhone Ultra would be less flexible because names such as Ultra SE sound awkward.

The current iPhone Duo product page establishes the baseline: a 5.4-inch outer screen, a 7.6-inch inner screen, four storage options and two colors. A broader lineup would let Apple address the two biggest limits of the first Duo: price and size. A lower-cost version could reach more buyers, while a Max could appeal to people who want a tablet-like screen. However, Apple has not published a roadmap, price or release date for any second Duo.
The current design also leaves several ways to divide future models. Apple could vary the outer-screen size, hinge, camera system or supported accessories without changing the basic book-style format. It could also pursue a clamshell device, but Gurman’s examples should not be read as confirmation that every named version is in development.
