ROSÉ’s music video for her new single “new trick” was shot entirely on iPhone 18 Pro, and Apple is running it as a Shot on iPhone showcase for the new phone. The three-minute video went up on ROSÉ’s official YouTube channel on September 17, and Apple posted a 35-second cut on its own channel on September 18, the day iPhone 18 Pro reached customers.
Dave Meyers directed it. Both uploads credit him, and ROSÉ’s own carries the #ShotoniPhone18Pro tag, so the claim comes from the artist’s side as well as Apple’s.
What Apple credits the camera with
Apple’s description of its cut names one piece of hardware. It calls the clip “a look at ROSÉ’s new music video for ‘new trick’ shot entirely on iPhone 18 Pro,” then adds: “The new variable aperture lens on the 48MP main camera captured improved low-light footage and impressive depth of field to bring the music video to life.”

A fixed-aperture phone lens lets in the same amount of light on every shot, so the camera leans on shutter speed, ISO and software to cope with a dark set or to blur a background. A variable aperture gives the operator a physical control instead: open up for low light, close down to keep more of the frame sharp. Apple’s spec sheet lists four stops for the 48MP Fusion Main camera, from ƒ/1.48 to ƒ/4.0, and “Pro controls for lens aperture, shutter speed, white balance, and viewing histogram.”
“Shot entirely on iPhone” describes the capture device, not the whole production. A music video shoot of this kind still involves a crew, lighting and an edit, and Apple’s description does not list the rest of the kit.
A fast shoot in Los Angeles
ROSÉ described the project as a rush job in an interview with Zane Lowe, posted on the Apple Music YouTube channel on September 18. She said the offer came from Apple in the middle of a stretch of travel, that she changed plans to spend less than a week in Los Angeles to shoot it, and that she had already moved on to Japan by the time of the interview.
She credited Meyers with getting her to commit. He called her while she was in Europe to say he loved the song, she said, and that reassurance mattered on such a quick turnaround. “Dave really held my hand through it all,” she told Lowe.
The song came first. ROSÉ said “new trick” was written a few months earlier, and that it suited the Apple campaign once the offer arrived.
Where to watch it
The full video is on ROSÉ’s YouTube channel as “ROSÉ – new trick (OFFICIAL MUSIC VIDEO)”. Apple’s shorter version is on its own channel, titled “Shot on iPhone 18 Pro”, and its description links the song on Apple Music.
Trying the same controls yourself
If you own an iPhone 18 Pro and want to experiment with the aperture, change one setting first. By default the Camera app does not keep a manual aperture between sessions; our guide to why iPhone 18 Pro resets your aperture each time Camera opens walks through the fix. If you want to record ProRes, the phone also needs storage set aside first, which we cover in iPhone 18 Pro won’t record ProRes until you reserve Pro Video Storage.
The video is separate from Apple’s “What Holds Us” photography campaign, which we covered when the iPhone 18 Pro exhibition opened in New York.
