What the M5 update actually changed
Apple’s October 15, 2025 release describes the M5 chip’s benefit as “improved display rendering, faster AI-powered workflows, and extended battery life.” The Dual Knit Band is described only as “soft, cushioned.” Apple did not publish new resolution, field-of-view or weight figures alongside the chip change, and this article does not attribute any beyond what Apple stated.

Apple’s October 2025 release is a chip and accessory update, not a redesign. It does not mention a new display, a new field of view, or a new outward-facing look, and it frames the M5 chip’s benefit narrowly around rendering speed, on-device AI processing and battery life rather than around anything a person would see from the outside.
The same release paired the new chip with visionOS 26, which added widgets, new Personas, an interactive Jupiter Environment, and Apple Intelligence features in additional languages. Apple also gave its clearest app-ecosystem figure to date in that release: more than 1 million apps available for Vision Pro, including more than 3,000 built specifically for visionOS.
What has happened to the hardware since
Nothing, on the hardware side. Apple has kept shipping software updates on schedule. Apple’s security releases index lists visionOS 26.6 on July 27, 2026, and visionOS 26.6.1 on August 17, 2026, both applied broadly to “Apple Vision Pro (all models).”

Where that leaves Vision Pro today
Vision Pro is maintained on the same security cadence Apple applies to iPhone, iPad and Mac, but it has not had a hardware announcement of its own since October 2025 and has not had a dedicated feature announcement since a May 19, 2026 accessibility release in which Vision Pro was only part of the news. Apple has kept selling Vision Pro through the same channels throughout, with in-store demos still listed as bookable on Apple’s own retail pages. visionOS 27 is due Monday, September 14, alongside Apple’s other operating systems, though its features for Vision Pro sit outside what this article covers.
What Apple has not said
Apple has not announced a successor chip, a new headset revision or a price change for Vision Pro since the M5 update. It has not said whether another hardware update is planned for this generation, and it has not published updated app-ecosystem figures since the October 2025 count. It has not said whether the current display, cameras or overall design will carry into a future Vision Pro at all, and it has not set any expectation for when the next hardware announcement, if any, might arrive.
