The advice circulating this week is to sign into your Apple Account, save a card, confirm your shipping address and have everything loaded before iPhone 18 Pro pre-orders open at 5 a.m. PT on Saturday, September 12. Apple has published none of it.
That is not the same as saying the advice is wrong. It means no page on apple.com, Apple Newsroom or Apple Support tells you to do any of it for this launch. The step lists doing the rounds trace back to Apple Community, Apple’s user forum, which is written by users rather than by Apple, so none of it should be read as an Apple instruction.

That last line, from the iPhone 18 Pro buy page, is the only preparation instruction Apple has published for Saturday.

Apple said more about this in 2025 than it has in 2026
In September 2025, Apple published a newsroom post telling customers they could get a jump on pre-ordering by choosing their “desired model, accessories, carrier, payment method”, including “pre-approval for financing”, plus a “trade-in option if eligible”, so that they would be “only one click away when pre-order opens”.
That post describes last year’s launch. Apple’s newsroom published six posts on September 9, 2026 and nothing since, and there is no 2026 equivalent. Treat the 2025 wording as evidence of how Apple has described the process before, not as guidance for this Saturday.
The approvals that genuinely take time

Every one of those has a real lead time or a real condition, and none of them is about your address book. Both financing routes also force a carrier choice at checkout, which is the same choice that separates the $1,199 headline price from the $1,299 unlocked listing in our pricing breakdown.
The only preparation checklist Apple actually publishes
Apple’s Trade In page sets out a sequence: get an estimate, choose the new product, add the trade-in, check out. It then tells you to back up the old device, turn off Find My and sign out before sending it.
That is a published Apple checklist, and it applies to the phone you are giving up rather than the one you are buying. Apple publishes only the trade-in range, not a per-model table, and the values it credits fell on September 9.
What has not been confirmed
- Whether anything saved before Saturday carries into the pre-order.
- Whether an Apple Account has to be signed in before 5 a.m. PT.
- When a card is authorized as opposed to charged for a pre-order.
- Any per-customer order limit in the US. Apple’s Singapore store is the only one publishing a cap, at two of each model.
- AppleCare+ pricing for iPhone 18 Pro, which Apple has still not published per device.
- Any education discount specific to iPhone 18 Pro. Apple’s education store lists the same starting price.
Pre-orders open at 5 a.m. PT on Saturday, September 12, six days after AirPods 5 and the new Apple Watch models went up for order on September 9. iOS 27 lands on Monday, September 14, and iPhone 18 Pro reaches stores on Friday, September 18.
