How to use Live Rewind, step by step
These steps follow Apple’s published description. Apple has not released a support guide for the feature, and the watchOS 27 interface may differ when the beta ships.
- Pair your Series 12 or Ultra 4 with an iPhone that runs Apple Intelligence. Apple’s list covers iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max and all iPhone 16 models and later. Series 12 itself requires iPhone 11 or later with iOS 27, but Audio Intelligence needs the Apple Intelligence tier.
- Turn on Apple Intelligence on the iPhone. Apple says the Apple Watch features work “when paired with compatible iPhone.”
- Install the watchOS 27 update, which is free and arrives on Monday, September 14. Live Rewind itself is a later beta, so keep the watch updated until Apple flags the feature as available.
- Wear the watch during a conversation. The built-in microphone is what feeds the feature, so the watch must be on your wrist and unobstructed.
- When you miss something, double-press the Digital Crown. The previous 15 seconds appear as a text snippet on the display.
- Read the snippet, then dismiss it. Apple has not published whether the snippet can be saved, copied or shared.
If Live Rewind does not work
- Check the date. Apple’s Series 12 page lists Live Rewind and Siri Recap as beta features for late 2026, so they are not expected on launch day.
- Check the region. Apple says Audio Intelligence is not initially available in the EU.
- Check the iPhone. A watch paired with an iPhone that lacks Apple Intelligence, such as an iPhone 14 or iPhone 15, will not get the feature.
- Check the watch. Apple ties Audio Intelligence to the S11 chip, which only Series 12 and Ultra 4 have. Series 11 and Ultra 3 use the S10.
- Check your usage. Apple says the features are subject to daily usage limits, without publishing the limit.
