iPadOS 27 ships on Monday, September 14, 2026, from release candidate build 24A435, and Apple has published one iPad specific performance claim and one compatibility footnote. Almost everything else an iPad owner asks in September, starting with multitasking, Apple Pencil and external displays, is not on any Apple page.

The three silences that matter most
Stage Manager, windowing and general multitasking do not appear on Apple’s iPadOS 27 page at all. Neither does Apple Pencil, and neither does external display behaviour. Those three are the areas that separate an iPad release from an iPhone one, and this year Apple’s page addresses none of them.

It is worth being precise about what that means. Apple has not said these things are unchanged, and it has not said they are changing. It has said nothing, which is a different situation from a confirmed carry-over, and we are not going to convert one into the other.
The compatibility footnote that conflicts with another Apple page
Apple’s iPadOS 27 footnote reads: “iPad Pro (4th generation and later, M1 and later), iPad Air (4th generation and later, M2 and later), iPad (9th generation and later, A16), iPad mini (6th generation, A17 Pro).” Apple’s Apple Intelligence page describes the same families as iPad mini with A17 Pro and iPad models with M1 and later.
The iPad Air row is the one that does not line up. Apple has published no note explaining whether the qualifiers describe iPadOS 27 support, Apple Intelligence support, or both at once. Contrast that with the iOS 27 device list, where Apple names every iPhone from the 11 upward with no chip qualifiers at all.
Requirements Apple sets without letting you check them
Two Apple Intelligence features on iPad, Siri voice customisation and the improved on-device Dictation model, require an iPad with M4 or later and 12GB or more of unified memory. Apple states the floor and does not publish which iPad models and configurations clear it, which leaves the device’s own tech specs as the only way to find out.
- Daily usage limits apply to server-backed features, and Apple has not published what the limits are in numbers.
- Expanded access will be available for a fee in the future, with no price and no date.
- Siri AI is not initially available in the EU on iPadOS, and Apple has given no end date, saying only that it is working hard to find a path forward.
- Apple says the new Apple Intelligence features will not be available in China while it works through regulatory requirements, again with no date.
- Messages Suggestions and the Passwords security alerts are both marked as coming in a future software update, without one.
What Apple has not said
Apple’s consumer release notes for this cycle had not appeared when we last checked Apple Support on September 10. The equivalent documents for iOS 27 and watchOS 27 were both missing, and Apple has not pointed to an iPadOS version anywhere. There is also no published guidance on install time, storage headroom or rollback.
No new iPad hardware page went up this month either. The September 9 event brought iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone Duo, AirPods 5 and two watches, and as our live blog recorded, the iPad was not on stage.
iPadOS 27 is due on Monday, September 14. If Apple fills any of these gaps, it will most likely be through a support document published alongside the release rather than a new page before it, so Monday is the day to look.
