Apple’s published pre-order flow offers two ways to receive an iPhone 18 Pro on Friday, September 18: delivery, or pickup at an Apple Store. Apple has published nothing that says one is faster than the other, so the choice comes down to a single thing that genuinely differs, and it is your trade-in.
A trade-in handed over at a store is appraised by a Specialist on the spot. A trade-in sent by post runs on an online estimate that Apple says is valid for 14 days after you receive the new device, with processing that takes two to three weeks. The trade-in is where the two routes diverge
Apple describes the trade-in flow as get an estimate, choose the new product, add the trade-in, then check out, with the credit going towards the purchase or onto an Apple Gift Card. The published warning is worth reading twice: trade-in values vary by condition, year and configuration, not all devices are eligible for credit, and an in-store credit “may differ from the estimated trade-in value you received online if the condition doesn’t match what you described”.

If you are confident about your description of a clean phone, posting it is fine and you keep the phone until the new one lands. If your device is marked, cracked or you are unsure how Apple grades it, the store route tells you the real number on the day rather than three weeks later. Either way, back up, turn off Find My and sign out of your Apple Account before handing it over.
What is in the box on the day
Apple’s tech specs list the contents as the iPhone with iOS 27 and a 1 m USB-C cable. There is no power adapter, so the headline charging figure needs hardware you may not own.
- Up to 50 percent in around 15 minutes requires a 60W USB-C adapter, sold separately.
- Up to 50 percent in 30 minutes with a 35W adapter plus MagSafe.

- If you collect in store on Friday, buy or bring the adapter that day rather than discovering the gap at home.
eSIM, limits and the second wave
Twelve countries get an iPhone 18 Pro with no SIM tray at all: Bahrain, Canada, Guam, Japan, Kuwait, Mexico, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, the United States and the US Virgin Islands. Activation there is a software step whether the box arrives by courier or you carry it out of a store, and Apple has not published a pickup-specific activation process.
Two other constraints are published. Singapore caps orders at two iPhone 18 Pro and two Pro Max per customer, the only such limit on the ten regional Store pages we checked. And 20 countries are not in the September 18 wave at all; they follow on Friday, September 25, and Apple has not named them.
What Apple has not said
Apple has not published delivery estimates, pickup time slots, store opening arrangements for September 18, or any figure comparing how quickly the two routes get a phone into your hands. It has not said whether pickup stock is held separately from delivery stock. Most regional Store pages do not even state the availability date, which comes from Apple’s newsroom instead.
