iPhone Duo pre-orders open at 5 a.m. PT on Friday, October 16, and the first units arrive on Friday, October 23. Apple publishes no stock levels and gives no delivery estimate until after an order is placed, so the only variables you control are how fast you get through checkout and which options force an extra step.
That is the honest version of pre-order advice this year. Nobody can tell you which iPhone Duo configuration will slip, because Apple does not expose the data that would show it.

What Apple publishes about delivery dates, and what it does not
Apple Watch and AirPods pre-orders have been open since September 9, which makes them a useful test of what Apple is willing to show. The Apple Store page for Apple Watch Series 12 carries only boilerplate: āDelivery estimates are based on item availability and the shipping option you choose. You’ll get a final delivery date after you place your order.ā
Don’t miss the best of The Mac Observer
Set us as a preferred source and our Apple reporting ranks higher in your Google Search results and Discover feed — one tap, no account changes.
There is no per-configuration delivers-by date, no backorder notice and no out-of-stock flag on the public page. A day into live pre-orders, Apple is publishing nothing that would let anyone report a slip, and the same will be true of the Duo on October 16 until orders start landing.
The checkout choices that actually cost you minutes
Every one of these is a decision Apple makes you resolve during checkout. Each is faster if it is settled the night before.
| Choice | What it requires | Do this first |
|---|---|---|
| Apple Card Monthly Installments | You must select AT&T, T-Mobile or Verizon at checkout. Prepaid carrier plans are not supported | Decide the carrier in advance, because it is not a step you can skip |
| Apple Upgrade lease | A Klarna account, age 18 or over, a valid SSN or ITIN, an accepted card, and the ability to receive security texts. US residents only | Create the Klarna account and confirm your phone can receive texts before the morning |
| Apple Trade In | A condition questionnaire, then Apple’s inspection after it receives the device | Run the questionnaire beforehand so the credit is already attached to your order |
| Veterans and Military store | Verification through ID.me for the 10 percent discount | Choose in advance, because Apple states installments and Apple Upgrade are not available in that storefront |
| Accessories | The $79 Case and $129 Folio become orderable the same morning | Add them to the same order rather than going back for a second checkout |
The date that speed cannot change
Apple lists more than 70 countries and regions for October 23, including Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, Colombia, France, Germany, India, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, Singapore, South Korea, Türkiye, the UAE, the UK, the US and Vietnam. A further 28 follow on October 30.
If you are in that second group, no amount of pre-order speed moves you into the first wave. Apple has not published the list of countries in the October 30 group, so check your own regional Apple Store page rather than assuming.
The precedent from the iPhone 18 Pro pre-order
Ahead of the September 12 iPhone pre-order, Apple put its US store into a queue-building mode. The iPhone 18 Pro store page reads: āGet ready for iPhone 18 Pro pre-order. Choose your new iPhone today, then speed through checkout when pre-order starts at 5:00 a.m. PT on 9.12.ā
That is the single biggest time saver Apple offers, because it lets you fix colour, storage and payment method days ahead. Apple has not said whether it will run the same mode before October 16, so watch the Duo store page in the week beforehand rather than waiting for an announcement.
What has not been confirmed
Apple has published no stock figures, no per-configuration delivery estimates, no carrier pre-order terms for the Duo, and no list of the 28 second-wave countries. There is also no published guidance on whether store pickup will be offered on October 23, which is a separate question from delivery.
Pre-orders open at 5 a.m. PT on Friday, October 16. Between now and then the useful work is finishing your trade-in questionnaire and your payment setup, since everything else Apple announced on September 9 ships well before the fold does.
