What iPhone Duo Really Costs Over Three Years: $1,999 Is Where the Bill Starts

iPhone Duo starts at $1,999, and that is the smallest number in this article. Add the case Apple sells for it and three years of the only Apple coverage carrying a published price, and a 256GB Duo reaches about $2,798 before any sales tax, by our arithmetic on Apple’s published figures.

The honest caveat comes first. Apple has not published a per-device AppleCare+ price for iPhone Duo, a repair price for its display or hinge, or a price for the adapter that delivers its fastest charging. Everything below is therefore a floor, not a ceiling.

Key factWhat Apple publishes
Purchase price$1,999, $2,199, $2,599 and $3,199 for 256GB to 2TB
Monthly$83.29 a month for 24 months at 0 percent, or an Apple Upgrade lease from $57.99 a month
Case$79, or $129 for the Folio with Kickstand
Coverage with a published priceAppleCare One at $19.99 a month for up to three products
In the boxA 1 m USB-C cable. No power adapter, and no adapter price published

Not publishedAppleCare+ per device, repair pricing, lease buyout, adapter price

Coverage is the second largest line

AppleCare One costs $19.99 a month and covers up to three products, with each device beyond three adding $5.99 a month. Over 36 months that is $719.64, our arithmetic on Apple’s monthly figure.

It is not a phone-only price, and that changes the sum considerably. If the Duo shares the plan with an Apple Watch and a set of AirPods, the share attributable to the phone over three years is $239.88. AppleCare One Family, at $49.99 a month from September 14, covers up to six people through Family Sharing with six claims a year across the group, includes theft and loss protection for eligible iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch, and adds newly bought devices automatically at no extra cost. Per-device AppleCare+ prices for iPhone Duo are not published anywhere.

The three-year running total

This is a 256GB Duo with the $79 case and three years of AppleCare One. The sales tax line uses an example 8 percent rate because US list prices exclude sales tax and the real rate depends on where you live. Every calculated figure is labelled as ours.

What brings the number down

  • Apple Card Daily Cash. Apple pays 3 percent back on purchases at Apple, up front, which is $59.97 on a $1,999 Duo by our arithmetic. It requires selecting AT&T, T-Mobile or Verizon at checkout, and prepaid plans are not supported.
  • Apple Trade In. Apple’s credit is applied instantly at purchase rather than as bill credits. Its published range is $175 to $885 for an iPhone 13 or later in the US, stated in its iPhone 18 Pro pricing material. The top of that range needs the newest Pro Max in good condition, and Apple does not publish a per-model table.
  • The Veterans and Military storefront takes 10 percent off, which is $199.90 on a $1,999 Duo by our arithmetic, but Apple states that Apple Card Monthly Installments are not available there, and the Apple Upgrade lease is not offered there either.
  • Delaware, New Hampshire and Oregon charge no sales tax at any level, which removes the $166.24 line entirely on this example.

What the lease changes, and what it does not

Apple Upgrade, the Klarna lease that replaced the iPhone Upgrade Program on July 28, 2026, lists iPhone Duo from $57.99 a month over 24 months. That is $1,391.76 across the term by our arithmetic, less than the purchase price, for the straightforward reason that the phone is not yours at the end of it.

Two things stop that from being a cheaper three years. AppleCare is not included, so the $19.99 a month sits on top rather than inside. And Apple has not published what the end-of-term buyout costs, only that you can upgrade, buy the phone with a one-time payment, or return it in good condition with damage fees possible. Paying in installments instead is $83.29 a month for 24 months, $1,998.96 in total at 0 percent, and you own the phone.

What has not been confirmed

Apple has not published per-device AppleCare+ pricing for iPhone Duo, any repair price for the folding display or the hinge, a price for the 40W Dynamic Power Adapter with 60W Max or the MagSafe charger, the Apple Upgrade buyout figure, or any carrier offer for the Duo in any market. Resale value for a first-generation foldable is unknown by definition, so no residual is modelled above.

AppleCare One Family opens on September 14, a month before Duo pre-orders begin on Friday, October 16 at 5 a.m. PT, so the coverage decision can be settled before the phone arrives on Friday, October 23. iOS 27 lands free on September 14 and the Duo ships on iOS 27.1. Our Duo against iPhone 18 Pro Max comparison and the event recap cover what else that $1,999 is buying.
