iPhone Duo costs $1,999, which is $900 more than the $1,099 an iPhone 17 Pro cost at launch, and for that you get a 7.6-inch inner display in place of a 6.3-inch one, a 5.4-inch outer screen, the A20 Pro, a 2TB option and up to 44 hours of video playback with the phone closed. You lose the 17 Pro’s 4x telephoto, Face ID and ProRes video, carry 48 g more, and wait until October 23.
The figures come from Apple’s tech specs, Store pages and press release. Apple no longer sells the 17 Pro, so its price is the launch price; Apple’s Trade In page lists it at up to $785.

What $900 buys: displays and the fold
The 17 Pro’s 6.3-inch OLED runs at 2622 x 1206 and 460 ppi with ProMotion up to 120Hz. The Duo’s outer display is 5.4 inches at 1398 x 2034 and 460 ppi, and Apple says it has more than 90 percent of the screen area of the iPhone 18 Pro, whose 6.3-inch panel matches the 17 Pro’s size and resolution on Apple’s tech specs. Closed, then, the Duo gives you most of the 17 Pro’s screen; open, it gives you a 7.6-inch panel at 1878 x 2670 and 430 ppi that Apple calls the largest iPhone display ever. All three panels are rated at 1000 nits typical, 1600 peak HDR and 3000 outdoors, and the inner display has a nano-texture finish over a polymer cover Apple says is 40 percent stiffer than the industry standard.

Closed, the Duo is 84.1 x 117.8 x 11.3 mm against the 17 Pro’s 150.0 x 71.9 x 8.75 mm: 32 mm shorter, 12 mm wider and 2.55 mm thicker in a pocket. Open, it is 164.6 mm wide and 5.2 mm thick. The 17 Pro is an aluminum unibody; the Duo has a Grade 5 titanium frame and hinge cover. Both use Ceramic Shield 2 on the front, Ceramic Shield on the back, and are IP68 to 6 meters for 30 minutes.

The Ultra Wide is the same on both phones, and the main cameras are close in resolution but differ in focal length and aperture. The real gap is the 17 Pro’s 100 mm tetraprism, which has no equivalent on the Duo. In exchange the Duo gets Smart Take, Duo Preview, Kid Cue and Duo FaceTime on its outer display, a Camera Control button with a Siri Camera mode, and Dual Capture; the iPhone Duo camera explainer covers what the 2x crop does and does not do.
Battery, charging and connectivity
Apple rates the 17 Pro at up to 33 hours of video playback and 30 streamed. The Duo’s dual batteries are rated at 44 hours of video and 37 streamed on the outer display, 31 and 26 on the inner display, and up to 24 hours of typical use assuming equal time on each. The 17 Pro charges to 50 percent in 20 minutes with a 40W adapter or 30 minutes with a 30W adapter over MagSafe; the Duo reaches 50 percent in about 20 minutes with a 60W adapter or about 30 minutes with 35W plus MagSafe.
Both have MagSafe and Qi2 at up to 25W, USB 3 at 10 Gb/s, Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6. The Duo adds DisplayPort, Thread, Apple’s C2 modem with mmWave in the US, and two years of satellite features, and it is eSIM only in every country.
Price paths and trade-in
Apple’s Store page lists the Duo at $1,999, $2,199, $2,599 and $3,199 for 256GB, 512GB, 1TB and 2TB. Apple’s press release adds $83.29 a month over 24 months, which totals $1,998.96, and an Apple Upgrade lease from $57.99 a month. Trading in a 17 Pro at Apple’s ‘up to’ $785 estimate would take a 256GB Duo to $1,214.
The obvious alternative is the iPhone 18 Pro at $1,199, which keeps the 6.3-inch size, the 4x and 8x telephoto and Face ID, adds the variable-aperture main camera and 36 hours of video playback, and ships September 18. - The Duo’s RAM, battery capacity in mAh, or a rated number of fold cycles
- Whether the Duo supports ProRes, Log or Genlock; the spec page does not list them
