Apple has published no discount of any kind on iPhone Duo, and the only time Apple moved iPhone prices in 2026 it moved them up. Four older iPhones went up $100 each on September 9, which is the exact opposite of the pattern that makes waiting for a price cut look sensible.
So the honest answer to whether the $1,999 fold goes on sale is that nothing on any Apple page suggests it, and we are not going to promise you one. What does exist is a short list of published routes that lower the bill, and every one of them carries a catch worth knowing before pre-orders open on October 16.

What Apple actually did to iPhone prices this year
On September 9 Apple’s Store listings for the models it kept went up by $100 each. These are the prices Apple’s Store page carries now, set against what Apple listed before the event. Apple did not announce the increase and has not explained it on any page.

Apple also stopped selling iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max outright, and removed iPhone 16 Plus from the lineup. The classic move of buying last year’s model the week the new one lands did not work in 2026, and iPhone 18 Pro went up $100 as well.

Waiting carries its own cost
The credit sitting in your old iPhone is not fixed. Apple changed every trade-in value on September 9 and iPhone payouts fell, some by as much as $120, so people who held on to an old handset through launch week were paid less for it than they would have been in August.
Apple publishes no timetable for when it revises those values, which means the number you see today is the number for today. The Duo does not ship until October 23, and Apple has not published what it will credit for any model on that date.
Where a lower price could legitimately appear later
- Apple Certified Refurbished. Apple’s published claim is savings of up to 15 percent, a standard one-year limited warranty, a new battery and outer shell on refurbished iOS devices, and eligibility for AppleCare. As of September 10 the newest refurbished iPhone Apple listed was an iPhone 16, and Apple publishes no schedule for when a model joins the store.
- Retailers. The only confirmed launch promotion we can verify is Best Buy’s listing of up to $325 off an Apple Watch Series 12 pre-order with an eligible Watch trade-in, which expires on 9/18/2026. Walmart, Costco and Target have published no launch offer on any of the new hardware.
- Carriers. No carrier has published an iPhone Duo offer. The up to $1,200 in carrier trade-in credits that appears in Apple’s footnotes covers iPhone 18 Pro and is not extended to the foldable, and those credits arrive as bill credits over 24 to 36 months on a qualifying plan.
What has not been confirmed
Apple has not published an AppleCare+ price for iPhone Duo, screen or hinge repair pricing, a refurbished timetable, or any promotional discount. No carrier has published Duo terms. Anyone telling you the price will fall by a specific amount on a specific date is guessing.
Pre-orders open at 5 a.m. PT on Friday, October 16, with deliveries and store availability from Friday, October 23. If you want the lowest published outlay, the decisions to make before that morning are your trade-in and which payment route you use, because nothing Apple announced on September 9 points to a discount arriving later.
