macOS 27 Golden Gate: 10 Things Apple Has Not Published Before Monday

macOS 27 Golden Gate has a name, a date, a release candidate build and a compatibility list, and then Apple’s published material stops. Ten specific things are still missing before the update ships free on Monday, September 14, and the honest answer on every one of them is that Apple has not published it.

None of these are leaks that failed to appear or rumors that did not pan out. They are gaps in Apple’s own macOS, Apple Intelligence and Siri pages, which is a different thing, and each one changes a decision somebody is making this week.

The ten gaps

  • A release time. Apple’s page says available starting 9.14 and nothing more. Its software updates usually appear around 10 a.m. Pacific, which is a pattern rather than a commitment.
  • The download size, and how much free space a Mac needs to install it.
  • Any statement about Intel Macs. They are absent from the compatibility list, and absence is all Apple has published.
  • Which Mac configurations clear the 12GB unified memory bar for Siri voice customization and the improved Dictation model. Apple publishes the rule, not a model list.
  • Which ultrawide displays gain higher resolutions. Apple gives 5K at 120Hz as an example and names no panel.
  • Which cities get the Enhanced Flyover imagery in Maps. Apple says select cities.
  • A date for the Passwords feature that alerts you to weak or compromised passwords and updates them. Apple dates it as a future software update.
  • A date for the Screen Time update that the new child safety controls, including Ask to Browse, depend on.
  • When Siri AI leaves beta, and which languages follow French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish in October.
  • The price of expanded access to server backed features, and the size of the daily usage limits that make it necessary.

Two of them decide something today

The Intel silence is the one with money attached. Anyone still running an Intel iMac or MacBook Pro has no published guidance at all, only a list their Mac is not on. Apple has not said what those machines should expect after Monday, and we will not fill that in for it.

The memory question is the other. Apple sorts its newest Apple Intelligence features into a higher tier that needs M3 or later with at least 12GB of unified memory, which is a specification most people cannot recall for a Mac they already own and cannot infer from the model name. The check is the Memory line in About This Mac, because Apple has published no table.

What Apple did publish

The gaps look larger in a list than they are in use, because the feature side of the page is detailed. Apple describes a more uniform toolbar, edge to edge sidebars and colored sidebar icons, a Liquid Glass tint slider, Safari Tab Topics and Notify Me, Spatial Reframing and Extend in Photos, Image Playground, Shortcuts and Calendar entries created from a description, video podcasts with Picture in Picture and transcripts, better Mail search ranking, swipe to refresh, Call Context, richer VoiceOver image descriptions and automatic video captions with translation.

The same is true of the rest of the family. iOS 27 arrives the same day with its own long list, and the iPhone 18 Pro ships with it preinstalled on September 18.

What Apple has not said

Apple has not said whether any of the ten items above will be published when the update ships, or at all. It has not published a Mac specific line about China, only the blanket statement that Siri AI and the other new Apple Intelligence features are unavailable there while it works through regulatory requirements. It has not committed to a first point release date. And it announced no new Mac hardware on September 9, as our live blog and event recap both recorded.

The next dated step is Monday, September 14, when Golden Gate reaches every Mac on Apple’s list through System Settings, General and Software Update. Anything above that is still blank on that day is worth treating as unpublished rather than assumed.
